AECOM Federal Environmental Project Manager in San Diego, California

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an experienced Federal Environmental Project Manager to support and build an EHS compliance team with a focus on Federal programs (both DoD and Civilian) to be based in San Diego, CA, Fort Collins, CO, or Omaha, NE. The selected candidate will join AECOM’s EHS + Air practice within the Environment Business Line. The successful candidate will have an established and successful history of managing large complex Federal environmental projects, including but not limited to developing EHS-related proposals and cost estimates, executing EHS-related projects, developing strategic plans for new business and recruitment, and hiring of key personnel to support the growth of the team.

The Federal Environmental Project Manager will also work under the direction of the EHS Practice Lead in client project delivery, writing proposals, securing work and marketing AECOM’s services to Federal clients.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop, cultivate, and strengthen relationships with Federal clients specific to the EHS + Air practice.

  • Manage EHS-related projects and programs for Federal clients (e.g., compliance audit programs, industrial hygiene assessments, fence to fence compliance support [RCRA, CWA, CAA], etc.).

  • Execute EHS projects, to include providing senior technical support, while meeting cost, schedule, safety, and quality objectives.

  • Provide mentorship to junior EHS staff.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Management, Science, Engineering, or relevant environmental discipline.

  • Minimum of 8 years of Federal environmental program/project management experience with business development in environmental consulting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Environmental consulting experience with Federal clients in California.

  • Significant experience with Federal HTRW contracts.

  • Professional certification (e.g., CHMM, PE, CEP) and/or PMP certification.

  • Experience identifying Federal opportunities and taking them through the sales process to closure.

  • Ability to act independently on technical matters pertaining to EHS regulatory compliance.

  • Strong, established relationships with specific Federal agency staff and/or specific installations.

  • Ability to attract and retain clients and build backlog, revenue, and profit.

  • Understanding of federal contracting and sub-contracting practices and requirements.

  • Project/program management experience directly related to Federal EHS projects from proposal development through completion for an environmental consulting firm (i.e., developing proposals/cost estimates, managing clients, projects, and project teams; coordinating resources and managing subcontractors; etc.). Ability to independently manage various environmental compliance projects and programs ranging in size and scale.

  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills; extremely proficient in technical writing; highly effective organization and multi-tasking skills.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands, think strategically and successfully lead multiple simultaneous projects.

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, judgment and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Experience mentoring staff and leading project teams for Federal EHS compliance work.

Additional Information:

  • Relocation is not available for this position.

  • Offered rate of compensation (for Colorado locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $119,000 - 220,000.00.
