AECOM Ecological Restoration Crew Leader in San Diego, California

AECOM’s San Diego Natural Resources group is actively seeking an ecological restoration crew leader for full-time employment. The candidate will oversee a crew of up to 5 individuals, supporting numerous projects in the southern California region, and report directly to the Field Director.
Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
Provide day-to-day crew and field management. Direct where the crew is going, accompany and work with crew, lead daily safety tailgates; and fill out datasheets as needed for specific tasks and projects.
Work on complex projects with support and guidance from the Field Director and Project Managers.
Maintain the Annex (National City) and Clover Flat (Campo) facilities – e.g., irrigation, climate control, and security systems.
Maintain seed cleaning and other equipment, train crew members on proper use of equipment, conduct purchasing of equipment and supplies and/or supporting Field Director in purchasing.
Maintenance of QAL license and filling out herbicide logs.
Carry out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new and/or improved techniques and procedures.
Consult with supervisor about unusual problems and developments.
Participation in and enthusiasm for AECOM’s health and safety culture. Compliance and enforcement of OSHA and AECOM specific safety policies.
High school diploma and 4+ years in native habitat fieldwork, or AA/AS and 2 years in native habitat fieldwork.
Demonstrated leadership experience.
Knowledge and understanding of equipment and techniques used to perform habitat restoration including but not limited to nonnative species control (manual, mechanical, and chemical), native seed application and container plant installation and maintenance, construction and maintenance of temporary irrigation systems, and erosion control.
Field equipment – knowledge and familiarity with use and repair of small power equipment, such as weed eaters, chain saws, and blowers.
Experience operating light to medium duty machinery, such as gator and skip loader.
Willingness to perform herbicide application.
Native plant species knowledge and identification.
Elementary GPS capabilities.
Excellent work ethic and team-player attitude.
Strong attention to detail, with proven ability to follow specific instructions.
Ability to effectively express his or herself orally and in writing to other project staff.
Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check; many projects/ clients are security sensitive.
Must pass pre-employment drug screen.
Must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in outdoor environments with uneven terrain, variable outdoor conditions including heat, dusts, chemicals, moisture, and dryness; position requires frequent standing/walking, and lifting of less than 25 pounds; often performing repetitive bending & stooping, power gripping/squeezing (hand tools, levers, etc.), operation of vehicles, repetitive or fine hand movements, and lifting 25-50 pounds; rarely working with arms above shoulder level, climbing stairs, using portable ladders, wearing fall protection, operation of heavy, moving, or dangerous equipment, working in an environment of heavy, moving, dangerous equipment, keyboard/mouse operations, and lifting 50 - 75 pounds. Position will include wearing associated personal protective equipment, including safety glasses/goggles, gloves, safety shoes/boots, and face shield.
