Job Summary
The Transportation division of AECOM is actively seeking a detail-oriented, highly talented Civil Engineering Intern for immediate employment in the downtown San Diego, CA office.
This position is expected to begin in March 2021.

The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an ability to perform the job’s tasks through his or her prior academic experience, work experience, or both. The intern will join the project audit and cost verification team and will be responsible for supporting the team’s effort to recommend to clients the reimbursable cost of the public works projects that developers construct on our clients’ behalf.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Reviewing and understanding reimbursement agreements between developers and public agencies for public facilities
Reviewing and understanding public facilities financing plans, cost estimates, the scope of work of contracts and change orders for construction and design, construction bids, and other technical documents
Reviewing engineering drawings for public facilities and evaluating which improvements are inside or outside the scope of the reimbursable project being audited
Entering into Microsoft Excel the data associated with financial records for reimbursable engineering projects, including parks, roadways, bridges, and water and sewer improvements
Entering into Microsoft Excel the data associated with contracts and construction bids for reimbursable engineering projects
Making recommendations to the team for the reimbursement of claims submitted for the cost of constructing public facilities
Writing reports which summarize findings from the team’s project audit, describe issues encountered, and make recommendations
Processing forms related to reimbursement procedures
Performing clerical tasks including filing, scanning hard copies to PDF, and preparing meeting minutes
Participating in team meetings and reporting progress to the team on a weekly basis
Minimum Requirements
Candidate must be currently pursuing a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or related field with the intent to continue enrollment after an internship
Must have completed one year of study in the applicable program
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Bentley MicroStation, AutoCAD
Strong ability to maintain an attention to detail, especially when performing repetitive tasks
Strong capability to quickly learn and execute detailed tasks
Commitment to technical excellence to support the team’s goals for quality
Strong ability to analyze and evaluate contractual and financial documents to form judgments and support the team’s recommendations to clients
Good organizational skills for handling large amounts of data in Excel and managing electronic and hard files
Good written communication skills for summarizing findings and making recommendations
Good understanding of engineering concepts and terms, including the ability to read and understand plans
Familiarity with agreements and contractual documents and an ability to understand their verbiage
Strong understanding of project budgets and schedules to support the team’s financial goals and commitment to client satisfaction
Excellent ability to both work independently and on a team and to collaborate with the team in order to successfully complete tasks
Ability to think creatively to contribute to continuous improvement of processes
