Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Area Manager – Mechanical, Plumbing and Fire Protection to be based in San Diego, CA .
Responsible for the overall management administration to project and assists in establishing project specific objectives and policies.
Provides management and guidance to subordinate managers, enforces company and project policies, and a primary liaison between AECOM and client interface.
Oversees and ensures all facets of the project are constructed in accordance with design, budget and schedule through subordinate managers and supervisors.
Responsible for administering the project from budgeting/schedule stage through procurement and contract closeout.
Position Description
The Area Manager (AM) will report to the New Terminal 1 (NT1) Terminal Project Manager. The position’s scope includes projects within assigned functional area. In general, the Area Manager’s focus for the Program Team is to work with a Design-Build and Inspection teams to deliver the respective program functional area assigned within schedule and within budget. This includes coordinating logistics issues, change management issues, schedule issues, technical issues, and various stakeholder issues. This role requires coordination primarily with the Design-Build and Inspection teams, but also the various groups with interests in the area including airport operations, 3rd-party stakeholders, maintenance personnel, subcontractors, commissioning teams, activation teams, and subject matter experts. The role requires technical knowledge, ability to manage scope, schedule and budget, a diplomatic demeanor, and a proactive approach to problem solving.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Be familiar with scope and schedule for all projects occurring within the AM’s area of responsibility that are slated for construction within next three years.
Understand Validated Project Definition Document, Owner Design and Construction Standards, Project Performance Specifications, and the related plans and specifications issued by the Design Build Team.
Identify areas of potential conflict between scopes of work and facilitate coordination sessions between individual project participants. Similarly, identify areas of potential overlaps of work and make recommendations concerning opportunities for more efficient (less disruptive) packaging and/or procurement of the work.
In conjunction with Subject Matter Experts and Inspectors, identify scope elements that are not within standards (PDD, D&C Standards, Performance Specs), and alert Project Manager and others as may be appropriate.
Proactively look for logistics issues, quality issues, scope issues, and other issues that, if not resolved, will impede progress of the field work of the respective area. Proactively collaborate with teams in the Area to find solutions to issues and provide recommendations.
Participate in review of deliverables including design deliverables and construction bulletins for compliance with the owner requirements
Participate in Change Management of the elements related to AM respective area. Provide recommendations to Project Manager related to merit of requested changes and follow-up with necessary change management documentation.
Participate in schedule evaluation related to AM respective area. Provide recommendations to Project Manager related to schedule and validity of potential schedule as well as be knowledgeable about current ongoing progress.
Attend project meetings run by the individual Project Managers, Inspectors or Design-Builder throughout the life of the program.
Meet regularly with stakeholders (Operations, Tenants, etc.) to inform them of upcoming work and get input from them on potential impacts.
Work with utility shut-down expert and engineering technical support and make recommendations for timing of utility shutdowns. Draft Disruption Notices and Impact Statements as required.
Act as responsible party to ensure that all construction is in accordance with Plans and specifications.
Develops appropriate tracking and record keeping tools.
Coordinate commissioning of the equipment with Authority’s Commissioning Agent.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
BA/BS + 8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Must pass drug/alcohol/motor vehicle and background check.
Must have previous experience on minimum of one operating airport.
Night and weekend work will be required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or equivalent experience
Minimum 10 years of experience in construction of large infrastructure projects.
Proficient with engineering / architectural building systems and coordination among those systems.
Demonstrable experience in field construction observation of building systems.
Able to work under pressure on high-profile complicated assignments.
Additional Information
- Offered rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $122,820.39 - $227,217.73.
