Job Summary

The San Antonio Asset Management Team is currently seeking a talented GIS Specialist to perform multiple project tasks (both office and field.) Utility infrastructure focus is desired, though adaptability and a desire to learn are key attributes of the successful candidate. In this position, the successful candidate will work in a team environment with other staff on field projects and office assignments, and will serve as a team member for multifaceted projects. Other duties include attendance at training sessions and department meetings, and participation in long and short-term field assignments requiring domestic and international travel. Our group’s main focus is Horizontal Infrastructure (largely utilities) Asset Management. We perform asset inventories and condition assessments on a GIS platform for data acquisition, management, analysis, and reporting. From that data we develop a risk analysis for our clients, as well as conceptual to full designs and cost estimates for recommended actions.

The candidate is expected to perform tasks in support of a variety of projects:

  • Data conversion from multiple formats into GIS

  • Map production, map template design

  • Database design and manipulation, including setup of field schema, domains, relationship classes, and topology

  • Project activities including GIS database preparation, field work, data collection and control, and post-processing.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geographic Information Systems technology

  • Proficient in ESRI ArcGIS software; Postgres experience a plus

  • Cartographic experience with multi-layer symbology, legend, scale, and dynamic text creation

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel spreadsheet manipulation

  • Experience in CAD, PDF file georeferencing into ArcGIS

  • Experience in using ArcGIS toolbox for data analytics, and developing new tools to automate repeatable tasks

  • Quick-learner, ability to understand direction and implement outlined tasks

  • Self-starter, ability to problem solve and offer creative solutions to problems

  • Must be willing to travel and able to perform extensive field survey work for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred Geographic Information Systems Certifications from ESRI, Autodesk, or similar

  • Knowledge of Geodatabase programming using SQL, Python languages

  • Experience in mobile data capture technologies, particularly with ESRI products, Google Docs, GPS tablets

  • Experience in developing tools using ArcGIS model builder, Python 2.7 scripts, Excel macros

  • Experience with AutoCAD software and file conversion

  • Experience with SDE database editing, table field calculations, and relationship class editing
