Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly-motivated Geotechnical Engineer, Geological Engineer, or Engineering Geologist for employment in the Salt Lake City, UT office. AECOM is searching for candidates with strong technical and interpersonal skills and the ability to work productively both independently and collaboratively. This position will involve working with geotechnical engineers and other civil engineers on a variety of projects.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide geotechnical engineering and design support for highways, mines, buildings, and other projects

  • Conduct field exploration, collect samples, analyze data and review geotechnical samples for laboratory testing

  • Prepare or review engineering related calculations and develop drawings and figures

  • Perform geotechnical analyses and design, prepare engineering reports, plans and specifications

  • Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities

  • Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives

  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior level team member

  • Demonstrate ability to build trusting working relationships with clients and colleagues

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical engineering, Engineering Geology, or Geological Engineering or related field

  • 5+ years of geotechnical engineering and experience conducting field exploration

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE)

  • Strong verbal communication and technical writing skills

  • Proficiency working with Excel and Word

  • Experience working with a multidisciplinary team of civil & geotechnical engineers, and geologists

  • Experience logging soil borings, performing geotechnical analyses, and writing geotechnical reports

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Geotechnical engineering or related field

  • Working knowledge of the following programs: AutoCAD/Auto Civil, gINT, VisualBasic, SlopeW, SeepW, Slide, Settle3D, UTexas, WEAP

  • Experience with trenchless technologies, including Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) and Microtunneling

  • Experience writing geotechnical engineering proposals

  • Experience managing geotechnical engineering projects

  • Experience managing geotechnical construction services
