AECOM Traffic Monitoring Operator I in Saint Louis, Missouri

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking Traffic Monitoring Operator I position in St. Louis, Mo. The position will be a direct report to the TMC Shift Supervisor and AECOM management Team with direct communications with floor staff.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assesses large volumes of data (both static and real-time) from a wide variety of sources to detect possible roadway incidents.

  • Monitors the Advanced Transportation Management System software, checks road sensor data and confirms the data using CCTV video.

  • Maintains telephone or radio communications with first responders, field technicians, 911 Operators and public service agencies. Once assessment is complete, determines the facts and severity of traffic incidents and prepares the information for dissemination to the motoring public.

  • Responsible for the maintenance, quality, accuracy, and timeliness of all information disseminated, including Dynamic Message Signs, Changeable Message Signs, public traveler information websites and internal notifications.

  • Monitors First Responder agencies and various communication channels to assess traffic conditions.

  • Activates appropriate response(s) to detected and/or reported incidents; includes dispatch of first responders and location assistance to active event scenes.

  • Provides information to the traveling public related to current travel conditions, maintains traffic interruption reports and manages incidents on the metropolitan roadways from the Control Room.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma and or equivalent certificate (GED).

  • Ability to work alternating work schedules and on-call duties at a 24/7/365 operation center, schedule will vary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Good interpersonal skills

  • Strong, accurate data entry skills

  • Work in a team environment under stressful conditions

  • Perform effectively in a fast-paced environment requiring high level of multi-tasking

  • Communicate clearly both in writing and verbally

  • Synthesize information from multiple, diverse, and simultaneous inputs.

  • Two years of experience in a call center, dispatch center, EOC, or control room environment.

  • Work calmly and accurately under intense pressure.

  • Knowledge of two-way communication systems; radio and telecommunications experience.

  • Geographic familiarity with St. Louis interstate system and arterial roads (map reading).

  • Knowledge of incident management response techniques and municipality and area traffic management organizations.

  • Must pass an AECOM and Missouri State criminal history/security background check.

  • Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in an office environment. Position requires frequent keyboard/mouse operations, performing repetitive fine hand movements, and sitting for long periods of time; rarely standing/walking. Position will include wearing a dispatch headset, viewing CCTV camera displays, and listening to law enforcement radio broadcasts.

  • Basic skill proficiency in the use of Windows based applications including Outlook, Word, and Excel.

  • Position reports to the St. Louis, Mo AECOM office, but will physically be working at the client site at 14301 South Outer Forty Rd., Chesterfield, Mo 63017. Limited public transportation available to this site.
