Job Summary

AECOM has a position available for a Practice Managing Director for our growing Energy business. The Practice Managing Director, Energy, leads AECOM’s 150M Energy Business in the Americas. Part of AECOM’s Global Next Generation Energy Initiative, this dynamic leader will be directing a high-growth business in a market characterized by unprecedented demand. This position will play a key role in driving the overall growth, development, and performance of the practice. This role offers the freedom to work from any location located in the United States.

  • Primary Role : Growth, profitability, and overall stewardship of the practice

  • Reporting Line : Reports to the Global Business Line Chief Executive, Environment, including key interactions with the Next Generation Energy Global Initiative Co- Leaders and Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the Environment Business Line in the Americas

  • Key Practice Staff Support : “Regional / Portfolio” Practice Leaders, Sales Directors, Technical Practice Director(s), and Director(s) of Operations (DOO). The DOO also has an indirect reporting relationship to the COO

  • Key Performance Indicators : Include leading and lagging safety metrics, measures of employee engagement, growth, and profitability.

The responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Growth of the practice including market facing business leadership and development and implementation of the practice growth strategy in coordination with the business line management.

  • Inspire practice leadership and technical staff engagement and help drive their success. Leads, coaches, and provides mentorship for managers, supporting their professional development.

  • Profitability of the practice including innovative approaches to improve margin and operational efficiency.

  • Stewardship of the practice including industry leadership, development of a best-in-class safety culture, technical excellence and innovation, new product / service development and employee engagement.

  • Management of the practice’s commercial risk and pricing of services, in accordance with AECOM governance and in consultation with the GBL CE, COO, and Counsel.

  • Collaboration with co-PMDs to promote cross-selling of services, achieve successful capture of large-scale pursuits, and grow client accounts.

  • Supports the GBL CE and Initiative Leaders with the development, planning, and implementation of the overall DCSA growth strategy.


  • Collaborative and effective, growth-oriented business unit leader with a minimum 15 years of experience in business leadership.

  • Proven P&L experience running similarly sized businesses.

  • Demonstrated experience building highly effective teams.

  • Working knowledge of the practice.

  • A known champion of the business internally and externally.

  • Ability to discern new markets and develop business in those areas

  • Outstanding oral communication, written and presentation skills

  • Consultative, service-oriented mindset and collaborative problem-solving skills

  • Entrepreneurial spirit with a drive to take on a leadership role and the growth accountability and responsibility that comes with it

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS degree and 10+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including 2 years of leadership

  • 10+ years of experience with energy projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in Energy-related consulting services, including 6 years of leadership experience desired

  • Proven P&L experience running similarly sized businesses preferred.

  • Collaborative and effective, growth-oriented business unit leader.

  • Demonstrated experience building highly effective teams.

  • Experience with alternate delivery business models
