Job Summary

Under management supervision, the Industrial Hygiene Specialist II is responsible for implementing and administering project industrial hygiene programs affecting employee, public safety and occupational health. Serves as a resource for line management to administer a proactive prevention program for occupational accidents and illnesses; under general supervision performs technical work in a wide range of industrial hygiene disciplines to achieve compliance with ES&H standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements; exhibits knowledge and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of industrial hygiene; assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of industrial hygiene programs, systems and procedures; monitors and prevents hazards and diseases that could be found in the work area; investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace; recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures and operating equipment to minimize hazards; conducts employee training, emergency preparedness and assures the quality of programs; provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice; may provide guidance for a team of ES&H specialists and/or support personnel. This position may require shift work to support plant operations.

This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control and supervision of WTCC.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS

  • Provides technical assistance to office and field operations to ensure compliance with applicable international, Federal, State, and/or Company health and safety regulations.

  • Conducts compliance evaluations of equipment, structures, and work in progress to ensure that regulatory environmental, safety and health standards of the Company and all applicable codes are followed.

  • Recommends facilities and technological specifications to carry out programs that fulfill the organization's overall objectives.

  • Prepares and reviews technical reports, correspondence and program compliance documents.

  • Establishes and maintains permits as required.

  • Meets applicable regulatory codes and standards where required.

  • Industrial Hygiene Specialists II are expected to pursue and/or complete a professional certification, such as an ABIH Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).

  • Support the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work in order to protect self, others, and the environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

AECOM has joined with Bechtel to create an LLC, known as the Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) to construct, start-up and commission the world’s largest radioactive-waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in southeastern Washington state. The project will use vitrification technology to process and stabilize 53 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste currently stored at the Hanford Site which is a byproduct of plutonium-production during World War II and the Cold War era.

The project is the largest undertaking of its kind ever and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects—equivalent to building two nuclear power plants. Its construction site spans 65 acres and includes facilities for pretreatment, low-activity waste vitrification, and high-level waste vitrification, as well as an analytical laboratory.

Minimum Requirements

Education : BS/MS in safety, Health or Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering.

Appropriate training and experience commensurate with the responsibilities of the position may be considered in lieu of a degree:

10 years related experience to the position and 20 semester credit hours in technical subjects related to the position OR Completion of 80 semester credit hours in technical subjects related to the position OR Successful completion of Engineer In Training (EIT) examination or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) accredited through National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) OR Professional engineer’s license

Experience: Minimum 3-7 years or MS degree + 1-2 years’ experience in a nuclear, heavy construction, chemical processing or petroleum refining environment. ABIH Certification (CIH) Preferred . 1 years of Nuclear experience, a Bachelor of Science (BS) may be substituted for up to 3 years of nuclear experience.

Experience in a nuclear, heavy construction, chemical processing or petroleum refining environment is preferred.

Must be willing to work overtime and weekends as needed

Must be able to work in the United States without Sponsorship
