Job Description

Cultural Resources/Archaeology Manager

AECOM is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable archaeologist manager with transportation project experience to join the North Carolina Transportation Business Line. In this role, you will manage the Cultural Resources Team in North Carolina. You will be responsible for overseeing and managing all archaeological activities related to transportation projects and overseeing the historic architecture group. As an integral part of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with cultural resource management regulations and guidelines. Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of archaeologists, ensuring effective allocation of resources and timely completion of project deliverables.

  • Supervise the Historic Architecture Lead and help guide the Historic Architecture Group.

  • Develop and implement archaeological research plans, methodologies, and protocols tailored to transportation projects.

  • Conduct archaeological surveys and excavations in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, standards, and guidelines.

  • Supervise and participate in fieldwork, including site identification, artifact documentation, and data recording.

  • Analyze and interpret archaeological findings, providing comprehensive reports, recommendations, and mitigation strategies.

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate and incorporate archaeological considerations into transportation project designs.

  • Liaise with regulatory agencies, Native American tribes, and other stakeholders to address archaeological concerns and comply with cultural resource management regulations.

  • Review and evaluate potential impacts of transportation projects on archaeological resources, proposing appropriate mitigation measures.

  • Stay updated with the latest advancements, regulations, and best practices in archaeology and cultural resource management, specifically in the transportation field.

  • Provide expertise and guidance to project teams to ensure adherence to archaeological requirements and promote sustainable project development.

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships.

  • Lead and/or assist in business development activities including client meetings, proposal development and strategy discussions.

  • Collaborate with other offices and business lines in the region and across the US.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • BA/BS in archaeology or a related field and 8+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred:

  • A master's or doctoral degree in archaeology

  • Meets the Secretary of the Interior Professional Qualification Standards for Archeology or History

  • Proven experience managing and leading archaeological teams

  • Experience with and knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, standards, and guidelines related to cultural resource management and archaeology

  • Experience in archaeological survey methodologies, excavation techniques, and artifact documentation\Experience in analytical and interpretative skills to assess and evaluate archaeological data

  • Experience in producing high-quality archaeological reports and delivering presentations to stakeholders

  • Experience in organizational and project management skills to effectively prioritize and delegate tasks

  • Experience in using various archaeological field equipment, data recording technologies, and geographic information systems (GIS)

  • Experience in communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with interdisciplinary project teams, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders

  • Experience meeting strict deadlines and managing multiple projects simultaneously
