AECOM Principal Geotechnical Engineer in Plymouth, United Kingdom
We are looking for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing Basingstoke, Exeter and Plymouth Ground Engineering team to deliver consultancy and advisory services to both internal and external clients to a high level of technical quality and to programme and budget.
Scoping, tendering and administering ground investigations and acting as the Investigation Supervisor;
Design of geotechnical works including slopes, foundations, retaining structures, earthworks, strengthened earthworks and ground improvement;
Production of geotechnical reporting, specification and contract documentation;
Reporting to the design team leader, you will interface directly with other ground engineering team members, from graduate to Directors and with other internal design teams from various disciplines and contractors;
You will have strong development skills and the technical ability, knowledge and competence to provide guidance and teaching to others, particularly junior staff, if and when required;
Ability to work collaboratively and iteratively within a multi-disciplinary design team, to ensure work packages are delivered on time and within budget;
Establishing strong working relationships and ensuring regular liaison with other internal teams;
Be aware of and understand the AECOM Project Management procedures, their importance and their application to projects, including monthly progress and budget reviews of projects;
Carry out regular design reviews in accordance with the company Quality Management System.
Senior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for team
Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.
Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high quality cost effective work by others.
Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.
Uses expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of PS&E package.
Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
Prepares technical specification sections.
Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the industry with a demonstrable experience in the technical support of projects and be conversant with the standards that apply. We are looking for an ambitious team player with strong development skills who wishes to assist in the development of innovative, cost effective and buildable solutions in an environment that is collaborative, stimulating and demanding. The role would suit a self-motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team. A sound basis of geotechnical engineering theory and ground engineering construction techniques is essential, as is knowledge and experience with numerical analysis software.

A degree in Civil Engineering although individuals with an Engineering Geology or similar background will be considered.
Ideally an MSc in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or similar.
Chartered status with the ICE, IOM3 or equivalent.
