Position Title Lead Electrical Designer

Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented and motivated Lead Electrical Designer for immediate employment in the Pittsburgh, PA office.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for initiating and developing engineering drawings through completion for assigned projects in conformance with the requirements, applicable codes/industry standards (i.e. NFPA, NEC, OSHA, IEEE, ISA, NEMA, API, AGA), and design criteria established by the project discipline engineer and client standards

  • Works independently to complete assigned tasks from survey to design and construction release

  • Supports construction efforts by answering requests for information, submittal reviews, and making field visits when required

  • Works to project specifications and associated written and verbal instructions in accordance with established design practices, standards and procedures

  • Coordinates work with that of others in discipline group and other discipline groups on the project

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma

  • 9+ years of experience in facilities, substations, lighting, pole lines, underground duct banks, cable tray systems, electrical equipment, and similar aspects of electrical installation work in an industrial project environment

  • Relevant oil & gas industry experience

  • Facilities/pipeline engineering experience

Candidate should also be capable of:

  • Capable of preparing complete information for design details, bill of materials, etc., that can be distributed to other design or draft personnel for completion

  • Understanding project scope as presented within a specific discipline

  • Ensuring that designs are consistent with project technical requirements and scope

  • Providing support for clients engineering deliverables

  • Sizing cable, conduit, and cable tray. Prepare lighting calculations. Size simple overcurrent protection

  • Advising the Design Supervisor, other Project Lead Designers or Supervising Discipline Engineer about status of assignment(s) with respect to schedule, budgets, delays and adverse problems

  • Checking assigned drawings supplied by vendors, clients and other discipline groups throughout the project to ensure quality designs. Full understanding of the purpose and use of vendor documents and reviews discipline supplier documents for accuracy

  • Providing technical guidance and assistance to other design and draft personnel and is responsible for neatness and accuracy of work. Providing technical guidance to less experienced design staff

  • Ensuring quality, quantity and completeness of the assigned design tasks

  • Planning and scheduling design tasks associated with assigned project

  • Keeping proper files and records related to assigned design activities

  • Familiarity with codes, permits, and software applications related to the discipline and application. Focused on continued development of understanding of industry codes and standards

  • Understands and uses computer software and applications associated with design assignments

  • Complying with Company safety awareness program, office and/or field safety policies

  • Acting with integrity in all elements of responsibility. Expresses ideas clearly and listens effectively to the ideas of others

  • Applying a solid level of understanding within a specific discipline and some understanding of other disciplines

  • Understanding the process of preparing designs and drawings using project specifications and discipline-associated written and verbal instructions in accordance with established design practices, standards, and procedures

  • Assisting in the collection of data on manpower, man-hour, and labor costs requirements for design staff to aid in evaluating the budget

  • Understanding cost estimating methods and performing material take-offs for the discipline

  • Should have an intermediate knowledge of disciplines materials costs and concept of cost analysis and forecasting

  • Executing and assisting in project change control process and can identify a potential change

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in engineering from accredited college or university

  • Additional knowledge and experience in I&C (PLC/DCS/RTU) work is a plus
