AECOM’s Transportation Planning Division is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Transportation Planning Senior Project Manager for immediate employment in the Phoenix, Arizona Office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an educational and career path in transportation planning, with proven experience contributing to planning efforts and other related projects. The ideal candidates will demonstrate an ability to be highly organized, work well independently and with team, and the ability to communicate clearly. Individual will play a key role in developing solutions to policy and physical planning problems. Highly experienced manager with full oversight, authority and accountability for larger, more visible, complex projects. Possesses technical excellence in area of specialty that is critical to the firm’s success. May possess full technical control over project. Sources and follows up on business development leads. Oversees the work of others and mentors others. Financial and project management goals are defined by the organization annually. Generally requires 15+ years of experience. Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent, advanced degree preferred. PE or AICP or active involvement in APA or other professional organizations and registrations preferred.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Collect, organize, and manage data to conduct transportation studies, including NEPA, urban design, and multi-modal projects.
Respond to questions and requests from project team members, clients, and other stakeholders.
Experience managing staff
Experience managing projects and leading meetings with clients, members of the public, and other stakeholders.
This position may require occasional travel.
10+ relevant planning experience
Solid background in transportation and transit planning
Innovative, detail-oriented, and has experience in highly visible/controversial projects
Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills, and exhibit sound and independent judgment within general policy guidelines
Ability to understand and manage high-profile, sensitive or controversial political situations – ability to work with diverse communities on difficult and contentious issues
Good understanding of pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations, including recent changes, procedures and practices
Aware of recent developments, current literature and sources of information related to municipal planning and administration
Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test
Knowledge of the NEPA process
Ability to manage planning projects in accordance with FTA and FHWA procedures.
Experience with multi-modal transportation projects.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of planning, research, and data collection.
Technical writing and public presentation skills
Ability to lead and manage multi-discipline teams
Ability to manage, coach and mentor staff
Bachelor's degree in transportation planning, urban planning, architecture, transportation, civil engineering, public policy, or related area of study
Master's degree in relevant discipline can substitute for up to two years of experience
