Job Description

The GeoCivil team of AECOM is actively seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to be located in one of the Arizona offices, Phoenix or Tucson.

The GeoCivil team works on technically challenging projects locally, nationally, and internationally. Our team brings together the skills of project managers, civil engineers, H&H engineers, geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, and environmental and planning specialists to provide integrated, sustainable and cost-effective solutions to our client needs. Projects include flood risk reduction systems, dams, levees, mining, tunnels, transportation, and power.

You will work alongside our project managers throughout the project design and delivery cycle, making technical decisions in various design stages of the projects to include carrying out feasibility studies, reference designs, detailed designs, and preparing reports and technical specifications. You may be asked to mentor junior staff which will call for excellent leadership and communication skills.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate in field assignments that will include soil and rock borings, test pits, CPT soundings, geophysical testing; geotechnical instrumentation design and construction; and inspection of the construction of geotechnical features like retaining walls, foundations, dams, levees, slopes and tunnels.

  • Have the opportunity to travel to and work in locations both within the USA and around the world.

  • Mentor and train junior geotechnical engineers.

  • Design shallow and deep foundations, earth retaining structures, ground improvement, flood risk reduction structures, embankments and cut slopes, and tunnels.

  • Develop geotechnical design parameters based on laboratory data results.

  • Prepare and review Geotechnical Reports, Alternative Analysis Reports, etc.

  • Use computer programs including GeoStudio, LPILE, GROUP, SHAFT, Plaxis, Settle3, and MathCAD for geotechnical analyses.

  • Review design plans and specifications and for compliance with geotechnical recommendations and communicate with multiple disciplines and provide design improvement recommendations.

  • Have the opportunity to meet with clients and participate in proposals.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree plus four (4) years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Driver's license required

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology preferred.

  • 7+ years of related experience in Geotechnical Engineering projects.

  • Arizona PE license or ability to obtain Arizona PE license within 6 months

  • Solid understanding of performing and managing field work

  • Project management experience

  • The ability to work well within a team

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office tools

  • Experience using geotechnical software.

  • Relocation is available for this position.

  • Sponsorship is not available for this position.

  • Project site travel required for this role as needed. (up to 30%)

  • Offered rate of compensation (Arizona locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The target salary range for this position is $80,000-$110,000.
