Job Description
AECOM Transportation is seeking an Environmental Planner to be based out of either our Conshohocken, PA or Philadelphia, PA office.
This position will support the planning team within our transportation business line. The candidate will work under the direction of transportation, environmental planning, and urban planning staff to provide environmental support for transportation projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region and beyond. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated team player, have excellent technical writing and interpersonal communication skills, and be highly client-focused. The candidate must have a positive attitude and a passion for learning and developing their skills as an environmental planner.
This job will involve, under the general direction of the Task or Project Lead:
Support of environmental planning studies and reports
Preparation of NEPA documents, including Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments and possibly Environmental Impact Statements
Field evaluations and assessments, such as wetland delineations, resource assessments, and threatened and endangered species screening
Preparation of technical reports
Preparation of waterway permit packages (federal and state encroachments, coast guard, aids to navigation, etc.)
Public involvement activities including preparation of meeting materials, attendance at meetings, and responding to comments
General technical writing
Provide mentorship, and support to emerging planners
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
BS Degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Ecology or similar + 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Experience in the transit or transportation-related environmental planning and permitting field in Pennsylvania, Delaware and/or New Jersey
Experience with the preparation of NEPA environmental documents and developing regulatory permit applications and assessing impacts to jurisdictional resources
Experience with wetland delineations using the USACE Regional Supplements and biological field surveys
Valid Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review
Preferred Qualifications:
Environmental Planner/Scientist with 7 years of experience in the planning and environmental permitting field in Pennsylvania, Delaware and/or New Jersey
Transit or transportation experience, especially PennDOT, DelDOT, NJDOT, PA Turnpike Commission, and/or Amtrak and familiarity with agency processes
Familiarity with state and federal environmental regulations, specifically the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA); Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act; Section 4(f) of the Department of Transportation Act/Section 2002 of Pennsylvania Act 120; Sections 401 and 404 of the Clean Water Act; 25 PA Code Chapters 102, 105, and 106; Sections 9 and 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Appropriation Act of 1899, Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, and Endangered Species Act
Experience with the preparation of NEPA environmental documents, including CE’s EA’s and EIS’s for FRA, FTA and/or FHWA.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
Working knowledge of ArcGIS
Technical writing ability and client facing interactions experience

Exempt Position: Offered rate of compensation (PA locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $95,000.
