AECOM Transportation Planner / Project Engineer in Orlando, Florida

Job Summary

AECOM’s Florida NEPA/Corridors group is seeking a motivated and confident Transportation Planner to be part of the Orlando, FL office. The candidate will be an integral part of presence in Central Florida for projects and studies focused on surface transportation (roadway, transit, port, bicycle and pedestrian) studies for clients such as Florida DOT, Federal Transit Administration, Federal Railroad Administration, MPOs, counties and cities. Specifically supporting AECOM’s General Engineering Consultant (GEC) contract with FDOT District 5 (D5).

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

In-house support at the FDOT D5 District Headquarters 3-4 days per week with tasks to include:

  • Project production assignments, developing scopes of services, monitoring project schedules

  • Managing various types of studies, coordinating project technical reviews and findings with appropriate D5 staff and external partners, local governments, consultants, etc.,

  • Coordinating public involvement activities, enhancement of generic scopes of work and other related services.

Outside of the D5 GEC tasks:

  • Project data collection, research and analysis, participation in project meetings with internal team and clients

  • Interaction with the public and project stakeholders (including federal, state and local agencies)

  • Development and/or review of project documents and general support of project team/tasks

  • Occasional travel to project sites, meeting locations and other offices will be required at times

Minimum Requirements

  • 5 to 10 years of experience

  • PE with engineering background, or AICP with planning background

  • Bachelors degree in related field

  • Knowledge and experience with governmental clients such as Florida DOT, counties, cities and MPOs

  • Proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated team skills including leadership and team support (all levels of contribution)

  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Educational discipline in planning related field of study (engineering, urban and regional planning, transportation, urban design, policy planning, geography, economics, etc.)

  • Experience in FDOT Florida Design Manual (FDM), AASHTO Green Book, and other applicable design standards

  • Experience in National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), FDOT PD&E and ETDM processes

  • Confident with public speaking
