Job Summary

The Transportation division of AECOM is actively seeking a motivated, highly talented project engineer to serve as a traffic operations and safety technical lead providing a mix of FDOT services on a variety of transportation and safety improvement projects.- The candidate shall have sufficient Project design experience and project/task management experience on traffic and safety projects related to roadway design and signalization design.

This engineer will join the Orlando, FL transportation group, a strong team atmosphere, so the candidate must thrive in a team environment. The project engineer will immediately be available to supplement client staff to meet design and production goals. Candidates must be able to review Construction Contract Documents, Plans, Professional Services Contracts, Traffic Studies and Engineering technical reports (prepared by others) for a variety of transportation and safety improvement projects including Design-Build (DB), traditional Design-Bid-Build, and Pushbutton.

Job specific tasks while supplementing client staff include:

  • Review design plans (DB/DBB/Pushbutton) and coordinate reviews with other disciplines

  • Management of safety design projects and design consultants

  • Coordination with Utility Owners/Agencies

  • Design Field Reviews / Field Inspections

  • Perform Contracts/Plans/Report/Calculation Technical Reviews

  • Project Document Control

  • Perform other duties as assigned by FDOT District Safety Studies Engineer

  • Ability to make sound engineering judgments and decisions regarding plans and specifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required

  • 5+ years roadway and/or traffic design experience on FDOT Roadway/Traffic/Safety projects

  • Previous experience with roadway safety and rehabilitation projects

  • Previous design experience including signalization and lighting

  • Proven knowledge of concepts, terminology and principle of road and bridge construction

  • Proven knowledge of FDOT Standard Specification and Roadway, Traffic Design Standards

  • Proficient in Excel and other MS office platforms

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong project document control experience

  • Certificates – EI Required

  • Due to the nature of this position, US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in CADD– Microstation, Geopak and/or Inroads

  • Familiar with FDOT projects, design criteria, and procedures

  • Familiar with FDOT review process; Electronic Review Comments (ERC) system

  • Team-Oriented individual – must be able to work with a large diverse group of engineers and designers at the home office and client office

  • Able to workshare on a variety of transportation projects within the Florida (travel is not anticipated)
