AECOM is seeking a Traffic Incident Management Specialist I to be based in Lake Mary, Florida. Operators are responsible for using Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) software and other resources to monitor freeway and arterial roadways and traffic signal systems to manage events/incidents; dispatching and/or coordinating response with incident management personnel and emergency responders; answering and responding to calls from emergency response partners and, occasionally, the public; communicating, coordinating, and collaborating with other TMC staff, Department personnel, and partner agencies.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Works under the guidance of managerial/supervisory personnel, but often independent of direct supervision, performing routine and repetitive duties, sometimes in a fast paced and intense environment
Utilization of ATMS software and other resources to monitor and control various Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) devices such as closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, traffic detectors, Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), and traffic signal systems
Monitor video images for the detection and verification of events such as crashes, debris, abandoned or disabled vehicles, and hazardous or non-hazardous spills
Use ATMS software to log incidents, construction, and maintenance lane closures, monitor alerts, and accept or manually override system-generated response plans as necessary
Dispatch and communicate with Road Rangers and other incident response personnel via radio or phone, following established protocols
Provide clear and accurate information and/or directions to Road Rangers and other incident responders dispatched to various traffic incidents
Communicate with the appropriate local agencies, authorities, FDOT maintenance personnel, contractors, and wrecker companies in the management and safe, quick clearance of traffic incidents
Adhere to TMC Operations and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Standard Operating Guidelines (SOG), manuals and other provided reference materials
Answer phones to provide information or assistance to motorists, FDOT personnel, or other agencies on traffic and roadway conditions; direct calls to designated personnel or take appropriate action
Monitor weather conditions for potential problems affecting traffic; make necessary communication to stakeholders and take appropriate action.
Perform equipment checks, data gathering, and updating of manuals and contact lists
Perform all duties with the highest level of customer service meeting or exceeding expectations and performance measures.
Use radio, phone, push-to-talk, and/or interoperability systems to communicate with law enforcement, fire/rescue departments, wrecker services, maintenance, contractors, etc. to provide clear and accurate information regarding incidents and the required response
Adhere to proper radio protocols
Use professional communications skills in preparing or completing written records in clear, concise sentences that include all pertinent information
Receive on the job training relating to traffic signal timing and implementation of timing plans
Opportunities for cross-training in traffic incident management, contract management, public information, field operations for traffic signals/arterial operations, and other TSM&O (Transportation Systems Management and Operations) functions
High School Diploma or GED
Must pass FDLE criminal history and background check
Public safety knowledge or experience
Physically able, with or without accommodations, to work in an office environment. Position requires often performing keyboard/mouse operations and standing or sitting for long periods of time; occasionally standing/walking; rarely climbing stairs. Position may include wearing a dispatch headset, viewing CCTV camera displays, and listening to emergency responder radio broadcasts.
Geographic familiarity with Central Florida roadways
Safety oriented and a sense of urgency in performing required duties
Have a customer service focused attitude
Effective oral and written communications skills for in-person, radio, and phone conversations
Ability to work calmly and accurately under intense pressure
Flexible schedule (relates to a 24/7/365 operation)
Ability to analyze and make sound decisions based on Standard Opera
