AECOM Buildings and Places is seeking a Senior Designer to be based in Orange or Los Angeles, California. We’re looking for a leader of design excellence. One who is driven by a passion for design, mentoring staff, and leading multi-disciplinary teams. While the opportunity encompasses a variety of project and client types, this role can immediately benefit our Federal Practice. While most of AECOM’s West Region Federal work is in California, the region includes Washington, Arizona, Oregon, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska, and Hawaii.

As a Project Designer with recognized expertise and experience in demanding, design driven projects, you will lead interdisciplinary teams in the design of varied project and client types. Leveraging your industry experience and creative problem solving, you will drive a wide range of project types and sizes through all phases of concept and design.
You are a team leader and will have the opportunity to lead not only from a project perspective, but from a practice and culture standpoint. The right person will be an integral part of our architecture practice in the region.
What you will do:
In partnership with the Project Director, Project Manager and/or Project Architect, the candidate will lead the design aspects of a wide range of projects
Prepare alternative design solutions and conceptual options
Develop solutions to a wide range of difficult technical problems
Oversee and mentor the work of more junior designers and architects
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture plus a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience in design, rendering and resolving technical issues, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Due to the nature of this work, US Citizenship is required
Professional Bachelor’s degree in Architecture (BArch) or Bachelor of Science in Architecture + Master’s degree in Architecture with 15+ years of relevant experience in design, rendering and resolving technical issues or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Working knowledge of building codes, standards, building construction, and building structures
Ability to lead integrated design teams of varying sizes to accomplish project delivery from concept through construction document completion
Fluency in English is mandatory, another other language is an asset
Revit and BIM experience as well as experience in AutoCAD, Photoshop, Microsoft Office, InDesign, and software such as Rhino, SketchUp, Enscape or other visualization tool
Experience in construction documents
Support Federal projects within the last 10 years through all phases of design and construction
DoD and Federal Civilian experience
Varying project types to include headquarters, training facilities, interiors, hangars, vehicle maintenance, base support (gym, entry control, warehouse)
Experience on Federal Design Build projects
Ability to be client facing and lead client discussions and charrettes
Proficiency with UFCs and other federal criteria
Security Clearance not required, but preferred
Strategic and critical thinking
