AECOM is actively seeking an Entry-Level Natural Resources Biologist to be based in the Orange, CA office.

This position is expected to begin in October/November 2022.

Job Overview:

This position would support numerous permitting, biological resource, and environmental planning and compliance projects in the southern California region. Opportunities for marine and coastal resources focused work are also available.

Primary duties will involve a mix of office-based work (e.g., writing sections for technical reports, permit applications, or other environmental documents; data management; project file organization and management; project management assistance) and field work (e.g., participating in general biological and natural resource surveys; environmental compliance monitoring; electronic data collection; water quality sampling).

The responsibilities and duties of this position may include:

  • Working closely with natural resource specialists (e.g., regulatory specialists, ecologists, biologists), including participating in a combination of office-based assignments and field work.

  • Working effectively independently when required.

  • Ability to follow and perform directions safely and efficiently.

  • Ability to work with a team to solve problems and have the confidence to ask for help.

  • Fits for duty to participate in field work that may involve rugged terrain, sometimes more than 8 hours per day (appropriate safety procedures, including designated breaks, will be implemented).

  • Ability to present oneself in a professional manner when interacting with members of the public or clients.

  • Collaboration with his/her supervisor on objectives established at the start of the internship to provide clear direction and goals

  • Collect, enter, and/or QA data, and apply technical principles and theories, with training and oversight.

  • Interpret and record data using electronic data method, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

  • Assist in preparation of environmental documentation.

  • Occasional travel may be required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field (e.g., Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science)

  • Valid U.S Driver’s License is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in relevant field (e.g., biology, ecology, environmental science)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word and Excel

  • Basic understanding of GIS

  • Ability to sit and/or stand at a desk for an extended period

  • Ability to operate four-wheel drive vehicles

  • Physical ability to hike in challenging terrain, possibly for extended periods of time

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Candidate must be flexible and willing to support multiple projects as needed
