AECOM Construction Manager - Education in Ontario, California

Job Summary

AECOM Program & Project Management Business Unit is currently seeking a qualified Construction Manager (CM) to support upcoming education programs/projects. Projects typically involve the design, construction, commissioning and closeout of projects totaling $10M in total capital cost under the jurisdiction of the Division of the State Architect (DSA). This will be a client site position possibly located in or near Sacramento, San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, San Diego, or other CA locations.

The CM, working closely and in concert with the client, will serve in a key role directing day-to-day construction management responsibilities and will be instrumental to the successful delivery of the project.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manages, oversees, coordinates all facets of the pre-construction, bid, award, construction and close-out phase of all assigned projects.

  • Reviews pre-construction documents, submits comments to Designer as necessary.

  • Plans, organizes, and prepares reports to upper management with respect to the status and/or progress of the projects.

  • Coordinates with all pertinent public agencies during pre-construction and construction to comply with all off-site work; coordinates with various client and project staff.

  • Manages both the project budget and schedule to meet the client’s qualitative standards; monitors the project budget on a monthly basis and ensures that the budget accurately reflects the project status/progress.

  • Manages daily activities of the contractor, reviews contractors’ construction schedules and submittals, and coordinates responses to the contractors’ inquiries thru the Requests for Clarifications (RFC) and other related documents. Reviews substitution submittals from contractors to ensure compliance with specification and/or District requirements.

  • Receives, reviews, and negotiates Contractor Change Order Proposal(s) to achieve a fair & reasonable price in accordance with the General Conditions; reviews and addresses any and all Schedule impacts in accordance with the projects specifications in a timely manner.

  • Reviews the process and monitors payments for the contractor, architects, engineers any other pertinent parties.

  • Administers provisions of Professional Service Agreements between Architects and the District.

  • Coordinates District delivery of related fixtures, furniture and equipment.

  • Monitors and manages project close-out with respect to project certification with the Division of the State Architect (DSA) and project financial close out.

  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of Project/Construction Management experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Previous experience executing education projects under the jurisdiction of the Division of the State Architect (DSA).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master's Degree in Architecture, Engineering or Construction Management.

  • Design Build Experience.

  • Experience utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM).

  • Experience in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified projects and/or the Collaborative for High Performing Schools (CHPS).

  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential.

  • Registered Architect or Professional Engineer in the state of California.
