AECOM is seeking an ES&H Specialist - Night Shift - to be based in our Olmsted, IL location.
Position Description or Typical Responsibilities:
The ES&H Specialist job family is responsible for developing, implementing and administering safety, health, environmental protection, and substance abuse prevention programs affecting employee and public safety, occupational health, fire protection and prevention, and equipment and property protection. Serves as a resource for line management to develop and administer a proactive prevention program for accidents and illnesses.
Provides technical assistance to office and field operations to ensure compliance with applicable international, Federal, State, and/or Company environmental, safety, and health regulations.
Conducts compliance evaluations of equipment, structures, and work in progress to ensure that regulatory environmental, safety and health standards of the Company and all applicable codes are followed.
Recommends facilities and technological specifications to carry out programs that fulfill the organization's overall objectives.
Prepares and reviews technical reports, correspondence and procedures manuals.
Establishes and maintains licenses and permits as required.
Meets applicable regulatory codes and standards where required.
May function as a generalist responsible for multiple ES&H facets on a small project or as a specialist on larger projects.
ES&H Specialists are expected to pursue and/or complete ES&H related professional certifications including, but not limited to the Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH), Certified Health Physicist (CHP), Certified Ergonomic Associate (CEA), and Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certifications. Initial certifications are individual development technical achievements and can be accomplished by receiving the Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) and/or Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST).
The ES&H Specialist family includes the following disciplines and general descriptions:
Plans and administers training programs in accident and fire prevention and protection, and other employee safety procedures.
Conducts comprehensive safety audits and inspections and recommends actions for the correction of hazardous situations for compliance with OSHA regulations.
Investigates injuries, conditions and incidents that do, or could, involve actual or potential liability.
Maintains adequate records of pertinent data and compiles or initiates the compilation of the required reports on individual job occupational injury and illness experience.
Plans and coordinates safety and health classes for craft and supervisory employees.
Under limited supervision, responsible for moderately complex technical work in a wide range of environmental, safety and health disciplines to achieve compliance with ES&H standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements.
Maintains current knowledge of specific government agency requirements.
Exhibits knowledge and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of their environmental specialty.
Independently determines and develops approaches to solutions.
Develops, implements and maintains safety and health programs, systems and procedures. Monitors and prevents hazards and diseases in the work area.
Investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace.
Recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures and operating equipment to minimize hazards. Develops and conducts employee training, emergency preparedness and assures the quality of programs. Provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice.
May act as a lead role for a team of ES&H specialists and/or support personnel.
May administer an ES&H program on a small or medium-sized project.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Health or Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering or demonstrated equivalent.
4 years of safety experience.
Must be able to maintain three point of contact while climbing a ladder.
Must have the ability to climb stairs that exceed 50 feet in height.
Must have the ability to work on barges.
Valid Driver’s License is required
Ability to work night shift is required.
Due to the nature of work, candidate must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident of the United States.
Safety construction or marine environment experience
Familiar with EM-385
Safety Certifications in one or more of the following: CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CHSP (Certified Healthcare Safety Professional), or OHSP (Occupational Health and Safety Program)
Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
Relocation and per diem benefits are not available for this position.
