AECOM Senior Traffic Engineer in Ocoee, Florida

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer based in Orlando or Fort Lauderdale, Florida. AECOM has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Transportation Engineer to provide in-house consulting services with Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise. The candidate will be part of a dynamic team, working on a wide variety of high-profile projects across Florida. This candidate will have the opportunity to bring original ideas and be at the forefront of planning and design that support future transportation improvements on existing roadways and new corridors. This position allows the candidate to explore and conduct analysis in connected/automated vehicles, managed lanes, innovative designs, and multi-resolution applications.

The successful candidate will serve as a task leader on various projects with an opportunity to supervise junior-level traffic design and operations professionals. Strong emphasis will be placed on technical experience, high-quality deliverables, writing and communication skills, and the ability to lead tasks and ensure delivery excellence with respect to budget and schedule. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established traffic design/operation-oriented career in a variety of transportation projects.

Senior Traffic Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Perform transportation planning assignments including micro-simulation, corridor studies, safety studies, Interchange Access Request (IAR) documentation and Transportation System Management and Operations (TSM&O) studies.

  • Coordinate with other technical disciplines including conceptual design, environmental management, traffic operations, right of way and others to develop recommendations for proposed improvements.

  • Evaluate and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria in performing traffic analysis on roadway networks.

  • Knowledge and experience with dynamic traffic assignment and multi-resolution modeling in VISUM/VISSIM.

  • Prepare written reports and presentations of project findings that support Project Development and Environment (PD&E) studies, Design/Concept projects, signal warrant analysis and corridor retiming studies.

Minimum Requirements

  • BS Civil Engineering and ten (10) plus years experience in traffic engineering or related field or demonstrated experience and/or education

  • Professional Engineering License

  • 8 plus years of experience in traffic engineering studies, safety studies, traffic operational studies, safety studies, traffic operational studies, signal timing and PD@E traffic studies

  • Experience with traffic operational analysis software such as HCS, SYNCHRO, and VISSIM.

  • Experience in dynamic traffic assignment and multi-resolution modeling in VISUM/VISSIM

  • Experience in safety analysis such as HSM, SPICE, ISATe and IHSMD

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in Civil Engineering

  • Knowledge of FDOT’s policies/procedures related to traffic engineering and familiarity with associated reference manuals such as MUTS Manual, Traffic engineering Manual, Traffic Analysis Manual, Signal Timing Manual, Highway Capacity Manual, MUTCD, Florida Design Manual, and Highway and Safety Manual, Interchange Access Request User Guide, etc.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience making presentations to clients
