Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Tunnel Ventilation Engineer for our Oakland office to work in our Tunnel Ventilation Group, part of AECOM’s Transportation business line and National Tunneling Practice.

This position will provide an opportunity to work within a specialized group of professionals, in the assessment and development of conceptual, preliminary and detailed designs for major road and rail transportation projects, and related underground or enclosed structures.

As a team member, you will be expected to bring several years of related experience in innovative mechanical design and problem-solving capability. In addition, your role will involve ensuring accuracy of design and contract documents and designing mechanical ventilation systems using engineering calculations, and preparing design drawings and specifications.

There is a good potential for professional advancement and in-house training.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or equivalent Engineering degree with exhibited experience in mechanical ventilation design

  • 2+ years of mechanical design experience

  • Engineer in training (EIT) certificate preferable or willing to obtain the certificate

  • Knowledge of CAD software

  • Experience with ventilation equipment selection and installation

  • Familiarity with fans and controls, and with fire life safety codes and standards (NFPA, AMCA, ASHRAE)

  • Capable of conducting computerized flow analysis for tunnel ventilation systems

  • Good verbal and written communications skills and knowledge of common office software

  • Self-motivated and experienced in performing calculations, and delivering quality work

  • Demonstrated abilities to work within project timeframes and budget constraints

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree a plus

  • Capability in use industry tools: SES, CFD, and FDS programs

  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory approval processes as pertaining to engineering
