Job Responsibilities
As a Port Planner you will work, as part of project teams, to develop a range of conceptual plans for various types of marine and rail terminals. You will also use in-house simulation tools to help clients better understand options for development and operations. This is a diverse role that will involve your contribution and insight to the effective delivery of its current portfolio of projects and to bids for new work within an existing team of planners and engineers.
You will be joining of a global team of 500+ maritime specialists who support on a wide range of maritime developments including container terminals, LNG facilities, waterfront developments, cruise and ferry terminals, marinas and harbors as well as coastal schemes such as beach development and coastal protection schemes.
AECOM’s Ports team has an established track record of successfully delivering maritime services to port owners/operators, contractors and transportation agencies as well as government agencies, international financial institutions and private developers. Our maritime experience includes port planning, port economics and due diligence, engineering and design, construction supervision for local and global clients.
This position is open and can begin ASAP, but we do have some flexibility in start date for our preferred candidate.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Development of conceptual plans of port and rail terminals using AutoCAD
Conducting capacity and operational studies using a combination of spreadsheet and discrete event simulation tools
Presentation of results using a combination of PowerPoint presentations, written reports, and video animations
Coordinate with other in-house engineering disciplines as needed
Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Preferred Qualifications
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Knowledge in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
Passed the FE exam with expectations of taking the PE exam as soon as qualified
Experience with Excel macros a plus
Experience with 3D design software a plus
Programming skills are desirable
Experience with traffic modelling software
Ability to apply passion and enthusiasm for design in a collaborative and progressive team-oriented work environment
US Citizen preferred
Demonstrable interest in developing a career in Ports & Marine Engineering
