Job Summary

The Transportation Department of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Intelligent Traffic Project Engineer for immediate employment in the Oakland, CA office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an academic and working knowledge in Surface Transportation, planning and design. The incumbent can look forward to supporting a wide range of planning and preliminary engineering projects for roadway, transit systems, managed lanes, bicycle and pedestrian facilities.

The successful candidate will serve as a project engineer on various projects involving transportation plans, traffic safety and public involvement, and the overall preparation of CEQA and NEPA compliance documents. This position is for a project engineer who will be part of a team that includes planners, engineers, environmental scientists, landscape architects, and other support staff.

Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Perform analytical tasks including data analysis.

  • Interact with multi-discipline and multi office teams.

  • Develop planning documents.

  • Develop and or review preliminary and final designs.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or appropriate discipline

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in transportation planning, traffic and engineering for multimodal transportation projects Progressive traffic engineering experience on Caltrans transportation projects

  • Experience with FHWA, State, and local transportation planning, traffic and environmental processes

  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to discuss projects with co-workers, clients, regulatory agency staff, AECOM staff, and the public in meetings and at public events

  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to write concise and readable technical reports and documents

  • Must be highly self-motivated with the ability to successfully multi-task, perform detail oriented work, work independently, and demonstrate effective time management skills

  • Must have a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registered Professional Engineer in California is desired
