Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a positive, highly talented biologist or ecologist for full-time employment in the Oakland office. The person accepted will perform construction monitoring, biological surveys, data entry and analysis, document preparation, and literature research. The successful candidate will assist with an immediate need for construction monitoring but will be available to assist with a wide variety of other projects over time. The Oakland Office includes more than 35 biologists and ecologists.

The environment of the Oakland AECOM Office is dynamic, energetic, and one where hard work is rewarded and personal obligations are respected. Project work at this office is primarily related to utilities, infrastructure, and restoration, including field surveys, restoration planning, environmental permitting, NEPA/CEQA compliance, and project monitoring.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide researching and technical writing for a variety of environmental regulatory documents such as environmental assessments, environmental impact statements, and other compliance documents

  • Assist on a variety of environmental studies for infrastructure projects including power, water, transportation, and development-related projects

  • Conduct biological surveys, construction monitoring, and other field work as needed.

  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required in biology, ecology, natural resources, botany, biogeography or related field

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Ability to work with a variety of field teams and clients.

  • Strong writing skills

  • Ability to perform tasks under the direction of a senior project professional

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test

  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs

  • Ability to interpret and summarize data for reports

  • Ability to work outside in potentially rough terrain in remote areas

  • May require travelling and staying out of town on occasions.

  • Ability to assist with construction monitoring, habitat assessments, habitat mapping, biological surveys for plants or animals, mitigation and monitoring reports, annual monitoring reports, and/or habitat conservation plans under supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in assisting with sensitive species surveys, botanical surveys, wetland delineations, vegetation monitoring, and other field assignments.

  • Knowledge of rare, threatened, or endangered plants and animals of the Bay Area.

  • Knowledge of the Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, and California Environmental Quality Act

  • Demonstrated field work experience and use of the scientific method
