ABOUT YOU

We are seeking to appoint a Graduate Environmental and Planning Consultant to join our Impact Assessment team. The new team member would ideally be based in Chesterfield, although Nottingham would be an option. The appointed candidate will be based in the minerals and waste team. There will also be opportunities to work on energy projects.

As a Graduate Environmental Consultant, you will be involved in aiding in the management and production of a wide variety of environmental and planning consultancy services in relation to infrastructure developments. This includes the preparation of fee proposals, submission of planning applications, co-ordinating technical assessments, assessment of alternatives and cumulative environmental effects, stakeholder consultations, site selection, development feasibility and planning appeals.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Job Responsibilities:

When you start with AECOM, we will pair you with a member of the team who will guide and mentor you through your initial period of working on live projects and business development proposals. Longer term, we will support your training and development as you progress towards becoming a chartered professional.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting project directors, managers and wider project teams in the delivery of planning and environmental impact assessment work.

  • Assembling and analysing data and preparing planning applications.

Writing planning statements, screening and scoping reports.

  • Assisting in the delivery of project outputs including – for example, scoping reports, environmental statements, environmental reports, related technical studies and planning applications.

  • Participating in project team meetings, client meetings and internal meetings

  • Prioritising tasks and meeting commitments on an on-going basis and taking ownership and responsibility for the completion and quality of work.

  • Following sound project management principles and appreciating the need to work within project budgets.

  • Keeping up to date with relevant environmental and planning legislation, policy, guidance and best practice.

  • Ensuring that health and safety issues are embedded in project delivery from the outset.

  • Providing input to business development proposals (expression of interest and tender responses) and continuously improving our service offering to clients.

Minimum Requirements

The ideal candidate would have the following skills:

  • Either a Bachelor’s degree or above (min 2:1 or equivalent) in Urban or Town Planning; or Bachelor’s degree or above (min 2:1 or equivalent) in Environmental Science, Geography, or a related discipline AND a Masters in Urban or Town Planning

  • A good understanding of environmental problems and solutions.

  • Strong report writing and analytical skills.

  • Proactive and driven.

  • Good organisation skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and willingness to ask for help when needed.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and clients, and work effectively within an established team; and

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Other desirable but not essential skills include:

  • Experience using GIS and/or CAD software.

  • Understanding of EIA processes (e.g. screening, scoping), environmental assessment methods and applicable legislation
