We are looking for candidates who want to help manage and grow what is already one of the UKs largest acoustics consultancies. There will be a strong focus on environmental related acoustics, but there is an opportunity to manage and grow work in other areas of acoustics, including building acoustics.

At AECOM we have one of the world’s largest Acoustics Teams, with over 40 full time specialists in the UK alone. We undertake a wide range of environmental and building acoustics projects offering our clients technical support throughout a project lifecycle, from outline design and baseline surveys, through impact assessment during the detailed design and construction phases, to pre-completion testing and compliance monitoring.

As a member of our Acoustics team you can expect to work on a wide range of interesting and challenging projects including some of the biggest projects in the UK. Recent and current clients include HS2, Rolls-Royce, Defra, Nestlé, Thames Water, Highways England, Network Rail, TfL, Shell, Shakespeare North Theatre, English National Ballet, BBC TV studios, Waterloo International Station, and Schiphol Airport.

Job Responsibilities:

  • We are looking for an enthusiastic individual keen to work collaboratively within an established Acoustics Team. The successful candidate would also work across wider multi-disciplinary design teams and be expected to establish strong working relationships with other internal and external teams, particularly within AECOM’s environmental and transportation divisions.

  • The individual would have excellent technical, project management, presentation, leadership, report writing, commercial, personal organisation and communication skills.

  • The successful candidate will lead the acoustic inputs to projects, manage the technical and financial aspect of projects and line manage and mentor staff.

  • Delegate workload effectively to meet client needs and achieve utilization target

  • Undertake line management responsibilities for more junior members of the Central Acoustics team.

  • Train/Mentor/Motivate – facilitate development of junior staff’s general consultancy skills and technical expertise

  • Set high standards of performance and quality for all team members.

  • Help chair regular meetings with the team. Hold regular informal meetings with Regional Acoustics Manager to discuss operational management (resourcing, prospects and proposals, marketing, recruitment and training etc.).

  • Liaise with other acoustics geography and technical leads.

  • Manages technical client relationships and plays a major role in technical selling

  • Provide fully costed proposals across a range of projects

  • Oversees technical resources to meet requirements on large, complex projects

  • Be responsible for project and financial management of own projects and overseeing project management of team member’s projects.

  • Works collaboratively with Technical leadership to develop and provide a consistent and high quality approach for all proposals and deliverables

  • Provide technical leadership in Environmental Acoustics for projects undertaken in the Central Region.

  • Undertakes business development activity to support the growth of the Acoustics team.

  • Provides technical leadership.

  • Drive best-practice within all projects.

  • Grow the service offer to internal and external clients (e.g. develop innovative approaches).

  • Keep up to date with relevant technical development in acoustics and its links to our business.

  • As an individual continue to develop a body of technical knowledge and general consultancy skills.

  • Prepare technical papers and presentations.

  • Present at meetings and conferences, internally and externally.

  • Assist in development of acoustics marketing material, both hardcopy and electronic.

Minimum Requirements

  • Have a thorough understanding of the Environmental Impact Assessment process regarding SNV; be capable of technically reviewing acoustics/SNV assessment reports and new work proposals delegated by the team managers.

  • Manage the acoustic input, undertake predictions and write reports on a range of projects, being fully conversant with relevant standards and guidance, including CRTN and CRN, BS4142, BS5228, BS8233, DMRB and being fully conversant with UK environmental acoustic legislation and policy.

  • Have a proven track record of managing own workload and that of the team and line management of junior staff, including being available to provide on the job advice and instruction and to develop new lines of work or smarter ways of working.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A first degree in acoustics or relevant technical disciplines (e.g. Physics, Maths or Engineering)

  • Corporate Membership (MIOA / FIOA).

  • Chartered status or evidence of working towards this.

  • Full driving licence.
