Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Senior Resident Engineer for immediate employment in North Los Angeles County. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Construction Manager during the design phase from schematic drawings to 100% construction drawings, assembly of specifications by interacting with designers and stakeholders

  • Assist Client in procurement of construction services and contract award

  • Supervisor for project personnel from AECOM

  • Coordinate and manages services provided by sub-consultants

  • Owners representative leading the construction management team to oversee the construction contract

  • Contract Administration (process contractor pay applications, evaluate and process change orders, responses to RFI, RFCs, project correspondence with Contractor, Stakeholders and Designers)

  • Review technical submittals for materials incorporated into the project, temporary structures and work plans

  • Coordinate and inspect contractor work while project is in progress, safety, quality assurance of materials

  • Track change order requests & problem issues and react to feedback from Client Management personnel, prepare reports on project details and communicate overall project goals and details to senior client managers

  • Maintain project management logs (RFIs, changes, submittals, construction documents, FF&E, close-out)

  • Assist the Project Manager with controlling and monitoring project budget & schedule

  • Represents the owner on final job walks; facilitates project acceptance by stakeholders

  • Coordinates with Caltrans and local railroad operators

  • Coordinates and facilities relocation of utilities by third parties during construction

  • Contribute feedback that might make work safer, cheaper, cleaner, lower impact or any other way improve the operational success of the projects

  • Support business development efforts and help maintain client relationships

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant Architecture or Engineering discipline

  • 10+ years relevant experience in Construction or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience

  • Professional Engineers License (Civil) - California

  • Experience administering projects in accordance with Caltrans Construction Manauls

  • Knowledge and experience in MS Word, MS Excel, Adobe Acrobat

  • Previous experience as Resident Engineer on projects with construction cost greater than $30 million

  • Understanding of bid processes and construction contracts

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of Caltrans Standard Plans and Specifications, Caltrans construction related manuals and regional standards

  • Demonstrate proactive problem solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to organize and manage contractors on complex projects and coordinate with public agencies

  • Previous experience as a Supervisor or Manager leading project teams

  • Previous experience managing construction projects that include working in light rail, passenger rail or freight rail right of way

  • Working on projects using alternative delivery methods such as DB or CMGC

  • Thorough knowledge of engineering and construction principles, practices and procedures, applicable laws and government regulations, public contract code

  • Cal-OSHA safety training (10-hr. minimum)

  • Experience evaluating and negotiating contract change orders

  • Knowledge of custom contract administration and documentation software

  • Working on projects that include significant bridge construction
