AECOM TEMPORARY Senior Roadway Quality Assurance Inspector in North Bay, Ontario

Canada - Ontario, Sudbury

Job Summary

AECOM Sudbury is seeking an experienced a Temporary Senior Roadway Quality Assurance Inspector.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Be familiar with contract documents, specifications, standards, manufacturers’ material specifications, special provisions

  • Supervise Quality Assurance testing and inspect grading, granular, concrete, asphalt, electrical and all other construction activities required as per client policies and procedures

  • Monitor the contractor's work for compliance with plans, standards and specifications prior to approving work and progress payments. Address the requirements of the MTO's Construction Administration and Inspection Task Manual

  • Identify and document deficiencies

  • Maintain diaries of contractor’s work, contract progress and inspection milestones

  • Train subordinate staff

  • Assist the office staff (Contract Administrator, Office Administrator) in the verification and documentation of payment quantities

  • Review contractor’s baseline project schedule for approval (Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project); identify errors, unrealistic logical connections among the tasks and improper resource allocation

  • Resolve routine technical problems on a day-to-day basis and refer problems to the Contract Administrator as necessary

  • Liaise with contractor representatives, property owners and general public during construction to resolve problems

  • Review contractor’s compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, environmental, Transportation of Dangerous Goods and Waste Management requirements

  • Monitor weigh scales used for accuracy and compliance with statutes.

  • Conduct: visual condition survey of structures for cracking; delamination survey of structure components including chain dragging and half-cell surveys

  • Carry out covermeter surveys to determine concrete clear cover on new reinforcing steel on bridge decks and barrier walls, and calculate applicable pay factors

  • Determine waterproofing membrane thickness and consistency by standard deviation and calculate applicable pay factors

  • Inspect asphalt paving operations, verify mix temperature, paver’s speed, rate of distribution, combination and type of compaction equipment, rolling pattern; identify defective workmanship (such as segregation, roller mark, poor joints etc.) and direct contractor to rectify, as necessary

  • Receive and review contractor's QC and QVE declarations and submissions

  • Review contractor’s concrete and asphalt mix design for approval

  • Inspect Contractor’s sampling procedure/field tests and verify that test methods follow specifications; review and analyze test results, provide permission for concrete placement and ensure that the approved curing method is implemented determine deficiencies and provide reports to CA

  • Review material test results and issue penalties/bonuses for payment and/or determine remedial action

  • Identify and issue construction QC Deviations (when contractor deviates from applicable contract/standard specifications without self-identifying the deficiency)

  • Prepare comments in support of contractor rating

  • Assist in the preparation of Monthly Status Reports

  • Transport material samples from project site to area laboratory

Minimum Requirements

  • Highschool + 4 years of relevant experience in highway/ roadway construction or Diploma/Certificate + 2 YORE

  • OACETT Registration or eligibility as Road Construction Contract Administrator (RCCA) required.

  • Valid G Driving License and access to personal vehicle

  • Minimum two (2) MTO or Municipal projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ideally 5+ years of relevant experience in general highway construction experience

  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and manage staff during parallel daytime and nighttime shifts.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
