Job Summary

At AECOM, we’re delivering a better world.

We believe infrastructure creates opportunity for everyone. Whether it’s improving your commute, keeping the lights on, providing access to clean water or transforming skylines, our work helps people and communities thrive.

Our clients trust us to bring together the best people, ideas, technical expertise and digital solutions to our work in transportation, buildings, water, the environment and new energy. We’re one global team – 47,000 strong – driven by a common purpose to deliver a better world.

Here, you will have freedom to grow in a world of opportunity.

Do you have a passion for developing traffic engineering solutions, with a particular focus on improving infrastructure for sustainable modes including buses, cyclists and pedestrians? Would you benefit from working with an established team of over 40 Traffic Engineers with a clear emphasis on professional development and providing a high level of service to our clients?

Would you like to work on interesting and high-profile projects both in the Newcastle city region and beyond? Would you appreciate flexibility in your working pattern to help you to achieve a better work-life balance, now and in the future? If the answer to these questions is yes, then we would like to hear from you.

We have a vacancy for a Traffic Engineer in the Streets team in our Newcastle office. Specific details of the role are provided below.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of feasibility, preliminary and detailed designs for traffic engineering schemes and associated reporting, supporting the presentation of deliverables to clients.

  • Ensure technical content and quality of output produced is in line with the project brief, checking the work of junior staff as appropriate and working within specified time and financial constraints.

  • Collaborate with colleagues both in the immediate team and wider business to ensure high quality deliverables.

  • Assist in the preparation of client fee proposals for approval by senior colleagues and contribute to major bids as required.

  • Seek opportunities to advance personal professional development and assist in the development and career progression of junior members of staff.

  • Ensure safe working practices, adopting a ‘safety first’ approach to all work.

Minimum Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the Traffic Engineering discipline, for example the development of infrastructure solutions for cyclists and pedestrians; bus priority; and traffic signal design and modelling

Preferred Qualifications

  • A relevant degree and be working towards an appropriate Incorporated or Chartered status with membership of a professional institution.

What We Offer

We will give you the flexibility you need to do your best work with hybrid work options. Whether you’re working from an AECOM office, remote location or at a client site, you will be working in a dynamic environment where your integrity, entrepreneurial spirit and pioneering mindset are championed.

You will help us foster a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion – a safe and respectful workplace, where we invite everyone to bring their whole selves to work using their unique talents, backgrounds and expertise to create transformational outcomes for our clients.
