Job Description
AECOM is currently looking to recruit a Principal Transport Planner to join our Development Planning team in Newcastle. We are looking to enhance and grow our teams with individuals with a strong technical background that share our enthusiasm and determination to support our varied workload.
Our Development teams work with private and public sector clients, architects, planners and other property professionals across all sectors throughout the development life cycle; providing services from site feasibility through to completion. This role therefore offers the opportunity to work with colleagues from different offices, as well as teams from various professions, on a diverse and interesting range of projects.
Typically, we undertake transport-related work in support of our clients’ planning application submissions, including documents such as Transport Assessments/ Statements, Travel Plans, Delivery and Servicing Plans, Construction Traffic Management Plans and Preliminary Design work as well as assisting them in site masterplan development. Our projects cover a full range of land uses including mixed use developments, residential, commercial, education and energy schemes.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a proven background in development related transport analysis and assessment, with wider experience in project management and supervisory skills. We would expect excellent written and oral communication skills which we would continue to develop, as well as experience in client fronting and negotiation with highway authorities. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about working on a range of projects which support development at various stages of its life.
Job responsibilities:
Providing support to Directors on technical, managerial and financial matters;
Taking a leading role in the delivery of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, Masterplans and other technical reports to support development or transport strategies for local authority clients;
Supervising work carried out by other members of the Development Planning team, ensuring that it is to the appropriate technical standard and is delivered to programme and budget;
Support the team leader in managing and mentoring junior staff in terms of their professional and vocational development;
Preparing fee proposals for new projects and working with the Team Leader and Project Management Assistant to ensure projects are delivered to budget and that KPIs are met;
Being a point of contact for clients, architects, planners and other professionals throughout the project; and
Representing the client and AECOM at meetings, and in negotiations with, Local Authorities and other regulatory bodies.
Minimum Requirements:
A proven record of dealing with clients, local authorities and other regulatory bodies;
Experience of understanding client briefs, developing fee proposals and the effective delivery of project work;
Good presentation and technical writing skills are required, and an ability to communicate and present confidently including in public forums.
Experience in the preparation of development-related Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Environmental Statement chapters and other technical documents;
Experience in technical design and masterplanning, including provision of advice to architects and other parts of the project team, including application of Manual for Streets and DMRB;
Extensive experience of industry standard junction capacity assessment applications such as Junctions 9/10 and LINSIG;
Have experience of business development and managing client expectations.
An ability to demonstrate proven management techniques including project and resource management as well as the mentoring of junior staff.
Qualifications
A degree in an analytical subject such as engineering, geography, mathematics, economics or similar.
Membership of a relevant professional institution (CIHT, CILT, IHE, TPS, ICE).
A Masters degree in a relevant subject is desirable but is not essential
