Job Description
Our Newcastle-based Building Services team are currently looking for a Principal Fire Protection Engineer to compliment and grow our delivery, QA and client service for Fire Protection Services across NSW and ACT. The wider AECOM Fire Protection Services team across Australia will provide you with additional support, peer review and work sharing as the national team grows.
The role will allow you to develop and progress in technical knowledge and business and project delivery skills. The structure of the company means that there are career paths and progression available for both skill sets.
On the technical front, the position will provide speciality advice on detection and suppression fire systems, including sprinkler systems, hydrant/hose reel and specialty gas and foam suppression systems. You will be leading and delivering fire protection designs on projects across a variety of sectors including Infrastructure, Defence, Data and Commercial.
On the business and people side, the position will contribute to the management and delivery of moderate to large scale projects. As a senior position in the wider specialisms and fire protection team, you will assist in the mentoring and development of other staff members. It will also encompass the management of resources, budgets and timelines and enhancing client and working relationships.
Key responsibilities:
Maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements for fire protection safety systems in buildings.
Be a leader within the Fire team to deliver projects with unique and innovative solutions, representing value for money for our clients.
Undertake building Fire Protection design from concept through to detailed design and construction phases.
Work in collaboration with our various business lines to ensure that relevant building codes are being adhered to
Attend meetings with our valued clients
The role
In this position, you will join our Buildings & Places team as an experienced Fire Protection Engineer. You will be a valued team member, working with other highly skilled engineers and specialists, helping us to deliver a better worldfor our clients and the communities in which we operate.
Engage with our clients, and work collaboratively with our engineering teams to understand critical project drivers and recommend the ‘best-for-project’ approach
Contribute to the management and delivery of moderate to large-scale projects
Deliver design services and advice across a range of market sectors
Provide specialist advice and lead the design delivery of detection and suppression fire systems, including sprinkler systems, hydrant/hose reels, and specialty gas and foam suppression systems
Manage commercial items relevant to the projects and Fire Protection discipline
Provide guidance and mentor junior engineers and graduates
Perform work per the agreed-upon budget and schedule.
Qualifications
You are a passionate, professional engineer with proven excellence in client service delivery. This determination will be evident through your approach to understanding the needs and drivers of our clients and delivering the right solution on time, every time.
To succeed in this role, you will have a recognised degree in a relevant engineering discipline and experience in fire protection systems, preferably within the property / building services consulting industry. You will also be able to demonstrate:
High degree of technical competency in fire protection, fire design and fire practices
Successful track record and experience in managing and leading projects (or components of) to meet or exceed client expectations
Commitment to teamwork
Confident communication style, with an ability to advise and influence key stakeholders, including clients and contractors, during all stages of a project lifecycle
Commitment to safety and leading by example
CAD / Revit experience desirable.
