Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Professional Engineer to work in our Midtown Manhattan office or other as agreed. The work will include signal design and signal design checking for railroad/rail transit systems.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop detailed signal design for transit and heavy rail clients in both relay based and microprocessor based signal systems.

  • Perform hardware designs and application software design for complex rail projects.

  • Prepares proposals and estimates in accordance with customer specifications.

  • Perform detailed check of team members’ designs (Route & Aspects, Electrical, and Schematic).

  • Participate in customer meetings and signaling design reviews.

  • Participate in factory and construction field reviews, site inspections and commissioning procedures.

  • Attending construction meetings and providing construction support.

  • Ensure signaling systems are installed, tested and commissioned as per approved designs.

  • Ensure designs adhere to necessary federal, state, and local standards and laws.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Sciences or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience

  • 10+ years of signal Engineering/design experience

  • Ability to plan and produce compliant signaling schemes with minimum supervision.

  • Experience with signaling standards and practices as it relates to all stages of signaling projects from design to installation and commissioning.

  • Knowledge of signaling principles, circuits, components and the implications of working with other disciplines.

  • Must have good working knowledge of Computer Aided Drafting and Design in general, specifically with MicroStation, AutoCAD or equivalent.

  • Understanding of AREMA and FRA standards.

  • Experience with Rail Road and Transit signal system designs

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Must be a good team worker and decision maker.

  • Leadership skills with a drive and commitment to excel in people management and development.

  • Good Planning, organizational and communication skills

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required
