Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a highly-motivated and goal-oriented individual to fill a Safety, Health & Environment Site Officer position at one of our construction projects in the NYC Metro area.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Implementing the requirements of AECOM’s Construction Manager’s (CM) Environmental Health and Safety Plan (EHASP);

  • Support the CM in preparation of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) in accordance with AECOM and client standards;

  • Support the CM in conducting various training for CM staff including new employee orientations, visitor orientations and Emergency Action Plan training;

  • Review all EHS related submittals by the Contractors, including, but not limited to, EHASPs, JHAs, monthly reports, asbestos/lead/mercury/PCB management and sampling plans, waste management plans, soil re-use, hazardous waste contingency plans, erosion and sediment control plans, and Stormwater Pollution Prevent Plans (SWPPP) to verify comprehensive oversight of all site activities;

  • Facilitate weekly EHS meetings with the Contractor’s EHS Representative (EHSR), and other project management personnel as appropriate, to ascertain and discuss upcoming construction related EHS activities;

  • Conduct frequent construction site visits;

  • Track and monitor the Contractor’s compliance with EHASP(s) and JHA(s);

  • Track and monitor all site EHSRs’ performance including, but not limited to, reviewing the EHSR’s daily reports and whether EHS issues are being adequately addressed;

  • Perform and submit CM EHSO’s daily reports of the Contractors’ Work areas and document non-compliance with the Contractor’s EHASPs and JHAs into an electronic filing system;

  • Notify CM and report all “Observations”, “Hazards Identifications” (Haz-IDs), “Incidents” and “Near Misses”;

  • Review Contractor’s incident reports for adequacy, participate in meetings related to construction related incidents, and verify that all necessary Contractor corrective actions are implemented;

  • Submit EHS monthly status reports and metrics. Prepare monthly trending analysis of Contractor EHS performance;

  • Oversee Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) and drills for the site in coordination with the client;

  • Review and manage all EHS Annual Reports (i.e., EPCRA, Hazardous Waste, Confined Space);

  • Support the CM in preparing Contractor and EHS staff evaluations, conduct evaluation review meetings, and verify evaluations are conducted semi-annually;

  • Prepare and participate in client audits as necessary.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of Safety, Engineering, or related field with 4+ years of relevant EHS field and management experience in construction

  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)

  • Successful completion of OSHA 10-hour Construction Health and Safety Course

  • Valid Driver’s License with good driving record

Preferred Requirements:

  • Knowledgeable in OSHA 29, CFR 1926 and 1910 Regulations

  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Health and Safety Course

  • Initial and Annual Refresher OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120/1926.65 HAZWOPER

  • NYSDEC 4-hr Erosion and Sediment Control Training

  • NYCDEP BEDC EHS Standards 4 Hour Training

  • Knowledgeable in use of NYCDEP BEDC’s Project Management Information System (PMIS) eBuilder

  • Knowledgeable in NYCDEP BEDC SOPs

  • First Aid/CPR/AED Trained

Additional Information

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $100,000-$125,000.
