Job Description
Role Summary
AECOM has a strong portfolio of growth projects in the areas of High-Speed Rail, Rail, Metros and Light Rail across the globe. We are seeking a candidate with strong expertise in leading the delivery of multi-disciplinary design and technical services into major rail projects and programs to help realize our key strategic objectives. This role will be “hands on” , coordinating multi-disciplinary design and technical services teams to successfully deliver solutions for complex major rail projects across the globe to successfully meet client and company outcomes. The candidate will be an effective technical coordinator with tenacity and drive who can expedite delivery of high quality, efficient solutions to program and cost.
Reporting to AECOM’s Global Transit Major Projects and High Speed Director, this person will provide leadership and support to AECOM Regional Business teams for both pursuit of and delivery of major rail/transit programs/projects to drive growth in target markets and delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Growth
Anticipated target markets – Europe (UK/Nordics), N America (USA / Canada), ANZ
Agree priority target pursuits with GTBL leadership.
For priority targets support regional pursuit teams with:
Client engagement
Development of win strategies for target pursuits
Team strategy and engagement with key partners
Provide GTBL input into key rail pursuits utilizing AECOM global reach back and multi-disciplinary capability.
Provide input and support to regional teams for RFP/submission response.
Project Delivery
Agree priority for inputs / support for delivery priority projects with GTBL leadership
For priority delivery challenges support regional pursuit teams with:
Client Engagement
Support regional project leads with development of technical delivery strategies/plans for high priority projects
Facilitate AECOM global reach back on rail and engineering expertise and capability aligned to best international practice
Support to regional Leads with recruitment for key hires and engagement of supply chain/sub-consultant support for major project delivery
On a selected basis – through agreement with GTBL and regional business leaders – take key technical/engineering management roles (start up in particular) for high priority rail projects
AECOM technical leader, Client liaison and technical management
Coordinates and expedites the technical delivery (time, cost, quality) of the design during development and construction.
Supports the implementation and maintains a very high level of health and safety awareness and ensures the project design complies with all requirements.
Contributes to assessing resource requirements, sourcing, and mobilizing those resources.
Presents progress and package issues to client team. Leads the production and reporting on the overall design progress and technical delivery and actions required.
Communicating the critical technical activities that will influence key milestones.
Ensuring critical design milestones are incorporated into the program.
Discuss changes to the technical scope of work with the Client and key stakeholders.
Responsible for following up on instructions & commitments associated with the project.
Contributes to preparation of Engineering Management, Design Management and Technical Assurance Plans and other documents required for delivery of design and technical services for complex rail programs
Establishes the technical requirements and monitors performance of technical teams.
Plans, directs, supervises, and controls the execution of technical functions and associated cost budgets where applicable
Assigns responsibility to key subordinates in their respective fields of expertise
Qualifications
Qualifications / Background
Significant technical delivery capability in design and construction of complex infrastructure projects, specifically major rail programs.
Ability to work to coordinate work across geographies, sectors and within a matrix led organization
Ability to reach back and form relationships with technical teams across a range of geographical locations
You will continually contribute to harmonious client relationships at the project level
You will be an effective technical capable of coordinating multi-disciplinary teams to develop integrated solutions for complex rail projects.
Understanding of experience and knowledge of best national and international technical practice including procedures and codes and regulations in the UK and internationally for example the Middle East.
Understanding of all stages of the project life cycle including start-up, execution, and handover of major projects.
Capability to successfully deliver design and technical services under different forms of contract including direct services to infrastructure clients and design services for contractors under design-build forms of contract
Record of engagement with a wide range of stakeholders eg utility providers, commercial and public sector stakeholders.
Flexible approach to travel within the UK&I and overseas to meet project demands.
Additional Qualifications
Ability to form collaborative and trusted working relationships with clients for technical services on major rail programs including rail clients and contractors
Strong inter-personal skills to coordinate inputs and outputs between multi-disciplinary rail, civil and environmental teams to deliver coherent integrated solutions.
Ability to take a “hands on approach” to resolve complex detailed problems
Strong understanding of technical and design solutions for railway infrastructure including major civil assets (including tunnels and bridges) permanent way, stations, depots, and requirements for rail systems
Ability to set out and implement engineering design management and technical assurance processes to ensure integrity of integrated design solutions within budget and time schedule
Minimum Requirements
BA/BS in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Structural engineering and/ or Project or Construction Management. Plus 12 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including 4 years of leadership
Proven capability in successful contribution to pursuit of commissions major rail projects and leading teams on delivery of major multi-disciplinary projects engineering projects.
Understanding of delivery models in UK/Europe and international markets
Experience in a range of high demand transit modes/project types e.g. High Speed Rail / Commuter Rail / Major Metro and Light Rail.
Preferred qualifications
Membership of a Chartered Institution (MICE/ MIStructE/ MRICS) preferred.
PMI-PgMP, APM-RPP or CMAA-CCM Certification (or equivalent) preferred but not essential
Professional Engineering License

Offered rate of compensation (NYC locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $176,000 to $326,000
