AECOM Senior Program Manager - Energy in New York City, New York

Job Summary

AECOM holds energy services and energy savings performance contracts (ESPCs) with a wide variety of utilities, universities, Federal Government and commercial clients. We are NAESCO-certified Energy Services Company (ESCO). AECOM performs energy audits, assembles energy master plans, delivers engineering designs and performs full turnkey design-build projects depending upon customer requirements. Our ESPC programs include responsibility from initial development through final acceptance, often with multi-year service agreements for ongoing operations & maintenance and measurement & verification. Projects range in size from $5-150M. The successful candidate will have responsibilities in all aspects of an energy project, including engineering design management, program and project development, identifying scopes of work, cost modeling and establishing relationships with clients, partners and vendors and supporting project implementation. We have a particular need for the candidate to lead our energy efficiency program work with a utility client in NY.

This position requires significant initiative and the ability to fill many different roles required to successfully execute energy projects including: business development support, project development, project management support, and others as required. The candidate must also be able to manage a team of project developers, energy engineers and subject matter experts ensuring they work with and support the team with the common goal of developing, designing and executing successful energy projects.

Success in this position requires a dynamic individual with high energy and motivation and an acute passion for developing energy, water and infrastructure improvement solutions. Critical requirements include teamwork skills, knowledge of the energy industry, project development experience, a strong technical background and the ability to develop high quality and creative opportunities in a fast-paced and ever-evolving industry.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading our Energy Efficiency Design, Bid, Build program with utility client

  • Development and engineering of energy, water and infrastructure opportunities

  • Development and engineering of central power and energy systems

  • Manage a team of energy engineers

  • Manage our engineering process for client programs

  • Develop calculation templates for uniformity across the energy business platform

  • Work with subcontractors and other AECOM business lines to formulate project budgets

  • Develop development cost estimates for Preliminary Assessments and Investment Grade Audits

  • Consult and work with internal and external subject matter experts, auditors and design engineers

  • Review technical specifications, reconcile design issues and perform quality check of final deliveries

  • Prepare project proposals, preliminary energy audits and investment grade audits

  • Train, mentor, and develop staff

  • Travel estimated to be 25-50% depending on project location and phase

Level specific responsibilities:

  • Routinely resolves difficult issues with significant financial impact.

  • Provides primary consulting services to clients of various sizes.

  • Interacts with senior government or public officials and/or executive level clients on significant program matters often requiring coordination between organizations.

  • Assesses and manages risk on behalf of the client.

  • Provides oversight and direction to AECOM PMs and other staff, client staff and subcontractors.

  • Mentors deputy program managers.

  • Requires project and client management experience including management of multiple projects of significant scope and complexity.

  • Basic project management training and certification preferred.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science in Engineering and 10 years of relevant experience in project development for energy projects including 2 years of leadership, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Skilled in leadership, client management, problem solving, risk management, budget control, communication, teamwork (especially with geographic dispersion)

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to deliver high quality and creative solutions in a fast-paced and ever-evolving industry

  • Technical aptitude of major engineering disciplines with ability to manage multi-discipline technical teams

  • Be willing to travel 25-50% depending on project location and phase

  • Valid driver's license and passport required

  • Self-directed personality

  • Mastery of Microsoft Office tools including Excel, PowerPoint, and Project

Preferred Qualifications

  • 15+ years of project development experience with energy projects

  • Design build project experience

  • NY Professional Engineering License
