Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Structural Engineer for employment in the New Orleans, LA office. This position will support our structural practice. This is for a full time position. AECOM often wins contracts to design some of the most complex and interesting hydraulic structures in the area, such as flood protection structures, flood gates, pump stations, navigation locks, intake structures, water diversion projects, ports facilities, and industrial buildings among other. This important role offers an excellent opportunity for career advancement through the participation in a variety of challenging projects. The Structural Engineer who will be responsible for managing a structural design team and take responsibility for overseeing multidisciplinary design teams on a number of projects. Ensuring that all design work is produced on time, to budget and in accordance with the project quality requirements.

Job Duties:

  • Lead the Structural team.

  • Lead and mentor engineers and assign projects and responsibilities.

  • Work with project managers and other discipline team members.

  • Review of concept design reports.

  • Review project specific specifications in line with local standards and codes.

  • Completion of deliverables in agreed time and cost.

  • Manage large design projects for structural related activities and coordinated services.

  • Manage design according to local rules, regulations and design guides.

  • Manage QA and the checking of all design work carried out prior to formal issue.

  • Ensure full coordination between the Structural elements of the design team, throughout the design process.

  • Ensure full coordination between the Structural design team and other disciplines including geotechnical, architectural, civil and MEP engineers.

  • Manage engineers, technicians and CAD/BIM staff.

  • Review arithmetical checks and independent design checks of other design teams and design reviews in accordance with quality procedures.

  • Be responsible for the accuracy of the work of the team.

  • Able to see the “bigger picture” and take a birds-eye view on projects

  • Must be able to make decisions, act on own initiative and operate in a pro-active way.

  • Confident, with the ability to work either independently or as part of a team.

  • Ability to work to deadlines and under pressure.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university.

  • 5 years of Civil or Structural Engineering experience.

  • Working knowledge of design codes for reinforce concrete design, including: hydraulic concrete structures, environmental structures and structural steel design

  • Previous experience designing hydraulic structures using USACE criteria (US Army Corp of Engineer).

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, Staad, Sap2000, Finite Element experience or similar industry design software.

  • Computer Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer License

  • Master of Science in Civil Engineering Degree (Structural emphasis) from an accredited college or university.

  • 6+ years of relevant experience in projects related to hydraulic structures, flood protection, levees, ports, and industrial building projects with the USACE, CPRA, DOTD, SLFPA and local parishes.

  • Experience utilizing structural analysis software packages.


  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test
