Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Senior Marine Structural Engineer for immediate employment for the New Orleans, LA office. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Performs structural analyses designs and site layouts of Port and Marine facilities

  • Selects and locates vessel mooring gear

  • Develops arrangement and placement of terminal mooring points

  • Performs load rundowns

  • Determines forces in the mooring lines due to changes in ship elevation and passing ships using Optimoor

  • Coordinates structural and geotechnical activities, develops structural and soil-structure design criteria

  • Designs mooring/breasting dolphins and the fender systems

  • Prepares drawings and technical specifications for Port and Marine facilities

  • Prepares cost estimates

  • Prepares engineering reports

  • Provides engineering support during construction

  • Reviews completed work to ensure accuracy and compliance with codes and design data

  • Develops and conducts technical training seminars

  • Possesses strong Knowledge of operational aspects of heavy load transfers, and dry bulk conveyors over wharf and dock structures

  • Supervises, trains and mentors other team members

  • Develops alternate solutions to existing problems. Performs all detail work necessary to determine best solutions

  • Informs the Principal Engineer or Supervising Discipline Engineer when problems arise and of outstanding personnel issues, manpower changes, schedules and unusual aspects of the work

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Possesses experience performing condition assessments of Port and industrial facilities

  • Always exercises sound judgment in assessing problem situations or complex issues

  • Understands the proposal process and can lead the preparation and review of fee proposals, as required

  • Able to perform Independent technical reviews of design effort by others

  • Fully understands and utilizes the capabilities, applications, and operations of computer software associated with design assignments and provides direction and guidance to others

  • Continually upgrades technical knowledge and capabilities, and pursues additional coursework and training

  • Complies with the company’s safety awareness program, office and/or field safety policies

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering from an ABET Accredited college or university

  • 10 years+ experience with at least 5 years experiences in the design of port and industrial facilities

  • Professional Engineer's License

  • Demonstrated experience designing dry bulk and liquid bulk dock facilities

  • Previous lead engineer experience for a construction project of at least $15 million

  • Strong background in reinforced concrete design

  • Strong experience using Autocad or Microstation,

  • Strong experience using Bentley SAP, Staad, Lpile. Optimoor, or Mathcad

  • Proficiency with Microsoft office products

  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer's License in Louisiana

  • Demonstrated experience designing dry bulk and liquid bulk dock facilities on the Gulf Coast and Mississippi River

  • Been the lead marine engineer on at least one fully completed dock or wharf project on the Gulf Coast or Mississippi River with a construction cost of at least $15 million

  • Demonstrated experience preparing permit drawings for Joint Permit and Section 408 Permission Applications


  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC)

  • Relocation or per diem benefits are not available
