AECOM Mechanical Engineer IV or Mechanical Engineer V in New Orleans, Louisiana

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a highly talented Mechanical Engineer to work in the New Orleans, LA office.

Position Description or Typical Responsibilities:

  • Works on industrial design projects and complete assignments of moderate to advanced complexity

  • Develops of equipment and construction specifications, technical reports, and drawings

  • Sizes basic process equipment including pumps, tanks, and piping components

  • Prepares and check technical calculations

  • Utilizes basic CAD sketching tools

  • Utilizes basic technical software including hydraulics and pipe stress

  • Reviews engineering drawings and equipment vendor drawings/data

  • Collects data and information in regards to technical and economic factors relating to mechanical engineering tasks

  • Develops manpower, manhour, and labor cost requirements for a project and can monitor them to aid in evaluating project schedule and budget.

  • Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineering staff

  • Perform material take-offs

  • Works to maintain positive working relationships with peer leaders

  • Builds productive relationships with organizations in and external to engineering

Mechanical Engineer IV - Job Summary

  • Senior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for team

  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.

  • Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high quality cost effective work by others.

  • Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.

  • Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.

  • Uses expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of PS&E package.

  • Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings.

  • Prepares technical specification sections.

  • Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.

Mechanical Engineer V - Job Summary

  • Serves as lead engineer on mid- to large size projects.

  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.

  • Approves and signs off on work.

  • Provides technical expertise for studies and design efforts.

  • Presents complex technical solutions to clients.

  • Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others.

  • Participates in development of technical proposals.

  • Provides estimates for the engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements on large projects."

Minimum Requirements

Engineer IV

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree and 6 years of experience performing mechanical engineering. design and project execution for industrial plant design or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Experience:

  • Previous experience preparing equipment and piping specifications

  • Previous experience designing hydraulic pumping and piping systems

  • Previous experience with Pressure vessel and storage vessel design and analysis

  • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and Outlook

OR

Engineer V

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree and 8 years of experience performing mechanical engineering, design and project execution for industrial plant design or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Experience:

  • Previous experience preparing equipment and piping specifications

  • Previous experience designing hydraulic pumping and piping systems

  • Previous experience with Pressure vessel and storage vessel design and analysis

  • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and Outlook

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from a 4-year accredited college or university program

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer or willingness to obtain within 2 years of hire

  • Previous experience in the refining, gas processing, and/or petrochemical process plant industry

  • Previous experience developing equipment specifications for rotating and stationary equipment

  • Previous experience serving as lead engineer

  • Previous experience developing cost estimates and manpower schedules

  • Experience with equipment specification and codes (API 610, 660, 661, ASME B31.3, Sec VIII, TEMA)

  • Proficiency with any of the following software: Solidworks Simulation, PVElite, HTRI, CAEPipe, NozzlePro, FEPipe or similar engineering software.
