Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry-Level Structural Engineer for employment in the New Orleans, LA office. This position will support our structural practice. This is for a full-time position. AECOM often wins contracts to design some of the most complex and interesting hydraulic structures in the area, such as flood protection structures, flood gates, pump stations, navigation locks, intake structures, water diversion projects, ports facilities, and industrial buildings among other. This important role offers an excellent opportunity for career advancement through the participation in a variety of challenging projects.
This position is expected to begin in June 2023.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out engineering tasks.
Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives
Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids
Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member
Prepare plans, specifications and cost estimates
Field inspection work
Responsible for assisting more experienced staff with the design of major building projects across the United States
Structural engineer will work collaboratively with more experienced engineers on large projects while developing the skills to lead/work independently on smaller structural design projects
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
Due to the nature of this job, U.S. citizenship is required
Preferred Qualifications:
Two (2) or more years of relevant experience (including internships) in structural engineering
EIT certification
Master’s Degree in Engineering (with Structural concentration) strongly considered
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong problem solving skills
Enthusiastic and Self-motivated.
Work well within a multidisciplinary team.
Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software
Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, Staad, Sap2000 or similar industry design software)
