Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a creative, highly talented Electrical Engineer II or III to support the Global Oil & Gas Business. This position will be based in our New Orleans, LA office.

The Electrical Engineer interacts with other disciplines, project support groups, subcontractors, vendors and client as appropriate on an assigned project. Performs engineering calculations, prepares specifications, performs analyses, witness testing, issues reports and maintains related data. Primary focus is on electrical systems, and involves the development of electrical drawings and documentation for the energy, oil, gas and petrochemical industry projects.

  • Under general supervision, may complete engineering assignments of moderate complexity within a specific discipline.

  • Intermediate level of understanding within a specific discipline.

  • Understands and assists with the preparation of project scope within a specific discipline.

  • Familiar with business development concepts and methods and provides support to proposals.

  • Familiar with codes, permits and company cornerstone applications.

  • Fully versed with the process of preparing and checking of calculations within a specific discipline.

  • Able to learn and use basic CAD sketching tools.

  • Can read and understand construction drawings.

  • Collects data and information regarding technical and economic factors relating to a specific subject within a discipline.

  • Fully understands the use of requisitions and the role of materials management.

  • Fully understands and reviews vendor documents for a specific discipline.

  • Collects data on manpower, man-hour, and labor cost requirements to aid in evaluating the budget.

  • Able to take the lead on estimating tasks and perform material take-offs for a specific discipline.

  • Knowledge of discipline’s material costs and concept of cost analysis and forecasting.

  • Exposure to basic planning and scheduling of engineering tasks within a specific discipline.

  • Knowledge of the project change control process and can identify a potential change.

  • Knowledge of discipline’s equipment and material lists.

  • Can assist in the integration of all project functional requirements into a complete project plan.

The successful candidate will:

  • Develop and check one-line diagrams, schematic and wiring diagrams.

  • Generate specifications for electrical transformers, cables, bus work and other electrical/substation equipment.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements for an Electrical Engineer II:

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree and 2 years of engineering & design experience of complex electrical systems or demonstrated equivalent experience and/or education.

Experience:

  • 2 years of professional experience with the engineering and design of electrical systems for Oil & Gas and/or Energy and/or petrochemical industry design projects.

  • Previous experience producing detailed electrical design drawings, including electrical equipment physical layouts, electrical installation details, electrical equipment layout, electrical cable schedules, wiring diagrams, and motor schematics.

  • Demonstrated Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook , Word and Excel programs.

Minimum Requirements for an Electrical Engineer III

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree and 4 years of engineering & design experience of complex electrical systems or demonstrated equivalent experience and/or education.

Experience:

  • 4 years of professional experience with the engineering and design of electrical systems for Oil & Gas and/or Energy and/or petrochemical industry design projects.

  • Previous experience producing detailed electrical design drawings, including electrical equipment physical layouts, electrical installation details, electrical equipment layout, electrical cable schedules, wiring diagrams, and motor schematics.

  • Demonstrated Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook , Word and Excel programs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from a 4-year accredited university program.

  • EIT

  • Working knowledge of ETAP
