Job Summary

This position requires an experienced, California-licensed architect (RA) to join the Architectural Group for the AECOM A/E Support Services Contract at NASA Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, CA. In this role the architect is responsible for leading projects for new facilities and renovation, modernization and repurposing of existing facilities at the NASA Ames Research Center. Facility types include research and non-research facilities. The facilities also support a broader range of federal government and DoD agencies in conducting world-class research and development in aeronautics, exploration technology and science. The facilities include world’s largest wind tunnel, modular super commuting, bioscience laboratories analyzing human survival in space, and support in the search for “exoplanets”. The Ames site is also home to a number of historic facilities and is involved in long-term leasing and development facilities for leading technology companies.

Responsibilities range will include responsibility for the full range of A/E design service from master planning, to preliminary design development, to project design and the development of bridging documents for design-build and construction documents for design-bid-build delivery as well as A/E support services during construction.

Minimum Requirements

  • 10+ years professional experience.

  • Registered Architect (RA) with a significant background in facilities architecture.

  • Experienced with performing California Building Code plan check reviews and with current California and ADA requirements for accessibility for persons with disabilities.

  • Experienced in roofing, building rehabilitation, design of systems furniture office layouts, existing building as-built documentation, pre-engineered buildings, and historic preservation.

  • Experienced on all phases of design and construction. Position will oversee design and construction administration duties of architectural team as well as manage projects assigned to them.

  • Experienced with Design Build.

  • Implement Quality Assurance on all deliverables.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must. Ability to make presentations to team and client.

  • Proficiency with Autodesk's AutoCAD and Revit design software.

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project is expected.

  • Can edit and write specifications, architectural policies and procedures, estimate design fees and construction support services costs

  • Experience in managing multidiscipline project teams for small to medium projects and in construction administration (field visits, reviewing submittals and RFIs) is required

  • Proficiency in project management and managing cost and schedule on projects.

  • Due to the nature and location of the work, US Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years' professional experience

  • Registered Architect (RA) with a significant background in facilities architecture

  • Proficiency with Autodesk's AutoCAD and Revit design software.

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project is expected.

  • Can edit and write specifications, architectural policies and procedures, estimate design fees and construction support services costs

  • Proficiency in project management and managing cost and schedule on projects.

  • Manage subconsultants assigned to projects.

  • Work with other local AECOM offices to support projects.

  • Work with client to develop scopes of work.

  • Experienced with performing California Building Code plan check reviews and with current California and ADA requirements for accessibility for persons with disabilities.

  • A successful candidate must be nimble on his or her feet, and be able to manage and perform multiple tasks during any one day.
