Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented and hardworking Quality Control/Safety Manager for immediate employment. This position will report to the Morrisville, NC office, but will physically be working on site in South Florida .

The Site Safety Manager role is responsible for the entire Safety, Health and Environment (SH&E) scope of a project. Requires proficiency and expert knowledge of SH&E concepts and coordinates efforts and manages Site Safety team. Overall responsibility and analyzes of safety audits, preparing monthly reports, providing training and coordinating communications. Demonstrates leadership ability of SH&E concepts, risks, and hazards.

  • Responsible for safety management of the project

  • Surveys construction projects to identify and evaluate physical conditions, safety practices, hazardous situations and compliance with established safety standards

  • Reviews history of accidents and claims, and prepares reports and recommendations as required

  • Coordinates safety of the project as a whole schedule, loss history, upcoming activities, etc. and provides stimulus for proactive loss control efforts

  • Reviews reports and presents corrective actions for specific situations identified by outside agencies

  • Conduct accident investigations and provide recommendations for corrective/preventive action

  • Conduct site specific safety orientation

  • Assists in the development and implementation of standardized Safety Programs

  • Interfaces with Insurance brokers, carriers, contractors and other safety professionals to direct and improve effectiveness of safety standards, codes and regulations

  • Coordinates, develops and /or conducts weekly safety meeting

  • Reviews subcontractor safety program to assure compliance with project and Owners Control Insurance Program safety standards

  • Assures the proper level of training for subcontractors

  • Assures the proper use of productive equipment

  • May be responsible for the coordination of the project drug-testing program

The Quality Control Manager role is to ensure that construction audits, surveillances, inspections and tests are planned, conducted and documented to verify conformance to Quality Control plan and construction activities of the project. The successful candidate will perform the necessary activities that affect the safety-related functions of structures, systems, and components. These activities include both the performing functions of attaining quality objectives and the quality assurance functions.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assuring that an appropriate quality assurance program are established and effectively executed

  • Verifying, such as by checking, auditing , inspecting, and testing that activities affecting the safety-related functions or QA Program have been correctly performed

  • Execute all planned and systematic actions necessary to provide adequate confidence that a structure, system, or component will perform satisfactorily in service

  • Provide reports that furnish evidence of the quality of items and/or activities affecting quality

  • Complete all the QA activities related to the examining, questioning, evaluating, and reporting

  • Identifying and following up on corrective action items; and closing out audit findings

  • Identify and correct conditions adverse to quality

  • Oversee construction efforts by contractors

  • Provide daily, weekly, bi-weekly and monthly QA progress reports

  • Facilitate QA Construction Meetings as required

  • Maintain the List of Open Points (LOP) of construction issues

  • Assist with Lean Construction activities

  • Assist with reviews and updating of Contractor Construction Reports

Minimum Requirements

  • OSHA 30 Hour Certification

  • Minimum of 10 years of high risk construction experience

  • Previous Safety Management experience for a construction contractor or construction manager

  • Ability to interpret and apply Federal and State and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations as well as working knowledge of applicable regulations (local, regional and geographical relevance)

  • Familiar with requirements of USACE EM 385-1 and experience in the areas of hazard identification and safety compliance

  • Valid Driver’s License required

  • Computer (Word, Excel, Lotus Notes) and office equipment skills

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

  • Ability to develop and conduct presentations for safety training purpose

  • Ability to prepare administrative and technical reports

  • Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequence of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals

  • Ability to function in a field environment (construction sites) that includes climbing, stooping, working at heights and walking long distances

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual skills (Spanish)

  • College degree in Safety (A.S. or B.S.)

  • Completion of additional safety training (verifiable via certificates, etc.)

  • USACE Construction Quality Management for Contractors training
