AECOM Electrical Engineer in Moffett Field, California

Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Senior Electrical Engineer for immediate employment for our office at Moffett Federal Airfield. AECOM is proud to provide our employee with exciting, challenging projects. The successful applicant will be responsible for successful completion of assigned projects and for maintaining and improving client relationships. Completion of these functions requires technical competence in primary production roles as well as leadership competence in working with clients and mentoring and supervising team members assigned to projects. Assigned projects will include electrical studies for utility and industrial/commercial clients. Systems to be analyzed will include conventional and renewable generation facilities, substations, and transmission and distribution systems.

Technical disciplines include the following three areas:

  • Protective Relaying : short circuit and symmetrical component analysis, time-current coordination, protection scheme and criteria development, relay settings, integration with SCADA systems, NERC compliance, arc flash analysis.

  • Applicable software: AcSELerator Quickset (SEL-5030), GE Enervista, ASPEN Oneliner, SKM-PTW, ETAP, RSCAD/RTDS

  • Power System Planning Studies : steady-state real and reactive power flow including outage contingencies, generation interconnect feasibility, P-V and Q-V analysis for voltage stability margins, dynamic stability performance, automation of large batch simulations, working with models from NERC regional entities (WECC, MRO, SERC etc.), NERC compliance.

  • Applicable Software: PSS/E, PSLF, PowerWorld, Python Scripting

  • Infrastructure Design studies : substation grounding, corona and electric and magnetic fields, insulation coordination (lightning, switching surge, and contamination performance), transient (time domain) simulation, power quality (harmonics, voltage flicker, over/under voltage, etc.), motor starting, AC interference (transmission line interaction with railroads and pipelines).

  • Applicable Software: CDEGS, ATP-EMTP, PSC

  • The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below

  • Serves as the Engineer of Record for drawings, specifications and reports prepared under their direction

  • Researches, develops, designs, specifies, and witnesses the testing of electrical systems, equipment, components, and materials, applying principles and techniques of electrical engineering

  • Develops and prepares construction cost estimates

  • Organizes and conducts site visits for purposes of data collection and evaluation of electrical systems, equipment, components, and materials for projects with and without well-defined scopes

  • Develops and prepares type written scopes of work for projects

  • Develops, designs, and specifies site electrical power infrastructure for systems up to and including 35kV, and site telecommunications infrastructure

  • Develops, designs, and specifies equipment, components, and materials for electrical power generation, distribution, and utilization systems

  • Develops electrical system models in software such as ETAP, EasyPower or equivalent

  • Apply your knowledge of Facilities Engineering and construction technology and engineering concepts to the specific technical tasks at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC).

  • Work with a team of driven supportive and highly skilled professionals.

  • Provide technical and organizational leadership and expertise to support all NASA AFRC facilities objectives.

  • Guides and mentors Contractor team members to follow established procedures and meet project milestones.

  • Manages workflow, and leads the team in identifying, distributing, and balancing workload among Contractor team members.

  • Represents the Contractor's quality assurance position to the customer including clarifying findings and recommendations.

  • Ensure Contractor completes required forms and checklists, and then submits to the customer for approval/disapproval.

  • Ensure all status reporting to the customer and company is accurate and timely.

  • Supervise Contractor personnel including Engineers, Technicians and Specialists.

  • Manages complex clients and projects.

  • Has decision-making authority and directs others Project Managers in recognizing risk and uncertainty with plans to mitigate and eliminate such.

  • Directs staff to operate and minimize exposure to claims.

  • Supervises and directs Project Managers with multiple projects or program projects.

  • Has a solid foundation of understanding or analysis of client business practices and goals; develops and formulates solutions to client problems on assigned projects.

  • Senior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for team

  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.

  • Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high quality cost effective work by others.

  • Participates ininterdisciplinary review of project deliverables.

  • Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.

  • Uses expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of PS&E package.

  • Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings.

  • Prepares technical specification sections.

  • Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.
