Job Description

AECOM has an exceptional opportunity for a creative, highly experienced Traffic Engineer for immediate employment. The successful candidate will work in a team environment on a variety of transportation planning and traffic engineering assignments, including traffic engineering components of large environmental assessments, preliminary and detail design studies for public and private sector clients. Opportunities would expand to projects across all modes covering traffic operations, parking assessments, highway planning studies, collision analyses, functional planning, site design, and transit planning to name a few.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing and reviewing complex traffic models in collaboration with the internal/external clients.

  • Advise, discuss and recommend traffic analysis tool options, with constraints and limitations with clients as an expert in the field

  • Work in a team environment on a variety of transportation planning and traffic engineering assignments

  • Work within multi-disciplinary teams comprised of land use planning, environmental planning, municipal infrastructure (roads and servicing), highway planners and designers, and architecture

  • Preparing documentation related to current or prospective projects, including correspondence, reports, maps, proposals, expressions of interest, specifications, consultation materials, and meeting minutes

  • Communicating and working with other project team members, including mentoring junior Traffic Engineers and team members

  • Liaise with and assist other AECOM departments and offices across the province on transportation modelling services

  • Completing work within the prescribed time and budget while maintaining high quality

  • Providing clients with transportation planning services, serving as a technical specialist and/or coordinator, with a focus on traffic and transit modelling

  • Support with the expansion of the group by one or more staff in the first 18 months

  • Oversee, lead and manage a portion of the Transportation Planning group with Transit and Rail

  • Proactively lead, mentor and develop the group with one or more direct reports.

  • Oversee and manage strong utility for your direct reports with a health back-log

  • In collaboration with the groups in the wider transportation division and leveraging the wider resource of AECOM, expand and grow the AECOM portfolio, our expertise, and the business within transportation/urban planning in existing and new emerging markets

  • Lead/support business development activities, proposals

  • Performs field inspections to gather data and/or procure applicable datasets to perform analysis.

  • Conducts meetings and presents reports and other findings to staff with advisory boards and elected officials.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or similar field with a strong emphasis on transportation and traffic engineering

  • 4+ years of experience in transportation planning or engineering with some experience in transit, active transportation, and/or multimodal projects of relevant experience

  • Registration or eligibility for P.Eng. or C.E.T.

  • Strong technical understanding of the Highway Capacity Manual, as well as traffic-related software programs, including HCS

  • Proficient with the use of some of the following transportation tools – Synchro, ARCADY, SIDRA, VISSIM, AIMSUN, and/ or EMME etc.

  • Demonstrable experience in developing Temporary Traffic Management Plans (TTM), Traffic Control Plans (TCP), and/or temporary traffic signal timings for construction.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in working with ITE Trip Generation Manual

  • Ideally, has experience in transportation engineering and project management

  • Masters Degree or higher is advantageous

  • Possesses an engineering license (P.Eng.) or registered professional in BC, or in progress to obtaining

  • 4-stage modelling methods and travel demand modelling software (e.g., EMME v2 or greater, TransCAD)

  • Transit service operations and planning practices, as well as transit priority assessments

  • Experience in a professional consulting environment

  • Experience in transportation planning policies and infrastructure economics, including appreciation of transit service systems and revenue forecasting

  • Able to manage large data sets using excel (or other tabulation software) and understand macros (using VBA/Excel, python, etc)

  • Transportation demand management and parking policies

  • Strong expertise in understanding and applying analytical outputs from transportation planning modelling tools, such as Synchro, EMME, TransCAD, VISSIM and or equivalent

  • Strong understanding of current transportation planning, policy, and infrastructure initiatives in the BC (with an emphasis on transit), land use and demographic trends in the region, and general urban planning and related policy issues

  • Working experience in undertaking traffic impact and parking studies for public and private sector clients

  • Experience with leading and managing traffic and parking projects as part of a draft plan and site plan approvals

  • Familiar with the land use planning process, official plans, draft plan and site plan approval processes, minor zoning variances, etc.

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

  • Excellent communication, presentation and analysis skills;

  • Proven track-record of delivering technical projects;

Additional Information

  • Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position typically is $77,000 to $100,000.

  • Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.
