AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Fluvial Geomorphologist Intern for employment in the Hamilton, ON office. Candidates may also have the option to work out of Guelph, ON, Kitchener, ON, Markham, ON or Mississauga, ON.
This position is expected to begin in April 2021.

We provide advisory and technical services to help clients cleanup and close contaminated sites and surplus operational facilities and restore them for reuse, plan and permit new facilities, address critical climate change issues, restore habitats and water quality, protect natural and cultural resources, maintain compliance, and cost effectively manage residuals and wastes.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Utilize basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope.
Collect and enter data, and apply technical principles and theories.
Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
Supporting ‘Natural Channel Design’ and stream restoration projects.
Conducting detailed field investigations under senior staff mentorship.
Analyzing and interpreting geomorphic and hydraulic data.
Working collaboratively across offices and discipline.
Adherence to and enforcement of AECOM’s Health and Safety Protocols.
Travel for overnight trips or extended field trips.
Must have completed 3 years of study in relevant scientific or engineering discipline (e.g., geomorphology, river engineering, physical geography)
Must hold a valid Class G driver’s license.
The ideal candidate should be willing to work out of AECOM’s Hamilton Office, but could also be based out of AECOM’s Markham, Mississauga or Kitchener offices.
Knowledge of fluvial form, processes and functions – including their dependence on local physiography and their influence on ecological habitats.
Knowledge of environmental data collection, identification, investigation, and data entry.
Familiarity with Natural Channel Design approaches, from concept development through to detailed design, construction implementation and monitoring.
Eligibility for membership of the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario (APGO) or Professional Engineers of Ontario (P.Eng.)
Must be willing to travel for overnight trips or extended field trips.
Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific or engineering discipline (e.g., geomorphology, river engineering, physical geography)
A Master’s level degree specializing in fluvial geomorphology would be an asset.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong detail-oriented work style.
Ability to manage personal project workload and meet deadlines.
Ability and willingness to work longer hours in remote field conditions.
Enjoy working outdoors.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
