Job Summary

AECOM’s Transit and Rail Signals group is seeking an Entry-level Transit & Rail Signals Designer to work with an existing team of 5 design engineers and technicians. The position is open for immediate employment based out of AECOM’s Mississauga, Ontario office.

This individual would deliver both large and small-scale signals projects in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Canada, and at times in the US as well. As a signal design team member, the successful applicant will have multiple roles:

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Team Management / Leadership:

  • Primary role as a Signals Designer

  • Attend client meetings

  • Act as the designated signals/systems specialist

  • Comply with corporate safety, values and initiative

  • Design:

  • Projects will be for:

  • North American heavy-rail freight and passenger systems

  • LRT and Subway transit systems

  • Perform design for:

  • New and modified vital circuitry and application logic programs for automatic block systems, centralized traffic control, interlockings, and highway grade crossing warning systems

  • Review own work for adherence to applicable standards, rules and regulations, as well as all applicable client standards and signal design policies and procedures

  • Prepare technical specifications

  • Perform hands-on design

  • Business Development

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Experience in problem-solving, trouble-shooting and analytical abilities

  • Experience in Electronics and Communication Applications

  • Experience in software applications

  • Experience with / working knowledge of both AutoCAD and MicroStation

  • Experience writing technical specifications

  • Experience undertaking design reviews

  • Competent written and verbal English skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • P. Eng. licensed in the Province of Ontario

  • Experience with international work

  • Experience with project management

  • In addition to office-based design, also experience with testing/commissioning, construction, maintenance, and/or operations
