AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry-Level candidate to join our growing transportation team in Minneapolis, MN.

Successful candidates will be based out of the Minneapolis office and may from time to time travel during the day or evenings to project sites, client meetings, other AECOM offices or other neighboring states in the Midwest. Under supervisory guidance, successful candidates will be expected to work independently and in teams to advance projects through client processes.

Under the responsible charge of a Professional Engineer, work will consist of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) planning and design, connected and automated vehicles and traffic engineering analysis.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.

  • Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.

  • Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids.

  • Work on a wide range of projects and tasks and assist with field research, data collection, data analysis, graphics, maps and data presentation, and report development.

  • Assist in agency coordination and ITS planning and design projects.

  • Support ITS architecture development, systems engineering analysis, design, construction plan development, specifications, quantities, estimates.

  • Perform traffic impact studies, traffic analysis software and simulation modeling, traffic signal design, traffic signal timing, air/noise modeling, data analysis, before/after evaluation studies.

  • Prepare technical reports, provide project meeting support and perform other duties as required.

  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.

Projects may involve:

  • Advanced and emerging technology / ITS devices / innovative solutions / Connected and Automated Vehicles

  • Interstate highways; urban and rural roadways

  • Transit systems

  • Other transportation facilities

Some Microstation, AutoCAD and GIS modeling work, maintenance of traffic planning, and signing/striping design may also be included.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in traffic or transportation engineering or other related field required

  • Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software

  • Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as of Land Desktop/AutoCAD, InRoads, InSite, and MicroStation)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) preferred
